Is it possible...?

I’ve been reading through this forum in particular for a while and I’ve noticed so much tension between Catholics and everyone else. This just might add to that, but I hope not.

For a while I have heard such and such about the prophet Muhammad(sp?). I am aware that Islam teaches that the angel Gabriel appeared to this “prophet” and ordered him to convert people.

A major “what if”…

Could it be possible that the angel Gabriel did indeed speak to this man, but he chose to do something his own way, and thus creating Islam? What if Gabriel was trying to get Muhammad to promote the Word of God and he chose to purposely ignore it and spark a new religion?

While these thoughts are completely random, and possible insane, I was wondering if anyone else out there thought the same.

Anything is possible with God. It could be Muhammad was given a private revelation from God, but twisted into his own words since clearly what Muhammad taught is contradictory to what the Catholic Church teaches.(Clearly this is from a Christian perspective. )

The official teaching of the Catholic Church is that all public revelation ended with the death of the last apostle. Although there are private revelations continueing on today, the Church does not bind it’s members into believing them. And they are only considered true revelations if they do not contradict that which has already been revealed.

or could it be possible that Jesus(pbuh) was told by God to spread his message but instead he declared himself son of God or maybe, just maybe he never said he was the son of God, but people made it out to be… and also could it be possible that angel gabriel spoke to Mohammed (pbuh) and told him to tell everyone the truth… lets see which makes more sense…
Christianity = worship Christ
Islam = worship God…
yeah Mohammed sure twisted the words around… what blasphemy he told people to worship God and no one but God!

so, why dont you call it Islam?
since Islam means submission to God…thus following God and praying to God…
Christianity implies believing in Christ and praying to Christ…

Yes, we do. And the Father and the Holy Spirit as has previously been explained. I suppose the main reason we don’t speak of our relationship with God as islam or its English equivalent, is that our relationship with God is not one of slaves but of sons, with God the Son, Jesus Christ, as our Eldest Brother. That’s why we are called Christian. It’s a family name.
