I understand that canonization is infallible, but I’m wondering about St. Christopher. He seems rather conveniently named, don’t you think (the name means “Christ bearer”)? Has he ever been infallibly canonized?

St. Christopher was one of the early martyrs about whom not much is known. He may have gotten his name from the story told of his carrying Christ across a river. In other words, he may have been known only by his story and people gave him a name that reflected the story.

Canonizations arose centuries after Christopher’s time. Many of the early saints, including Christopher, were never formally canonized but were acclaimed as saints by Christian communities.
