I like Jaci velasquez and Michael W. smith and the likes, What groups do you like and are there any catholic conteporary groups like these guys?

I have an album called “State of Grace” (not done by a particular artist) and play it a lot when I need something spiritually quieting but comtemporary. Check it out on Barnes & Noble or Borders where you can sample play the music and see if you like it. I have enjoyed it for a couple of years and have told several other people about it who have also bought the album. Hope you like it too.

I grew up on underground music and was in many bands. Then God called me to form a Catholic band because I couldn’t even find one I liked. You can check us out, maybe you will like us

My favorite contemporary artist is Lynn Cooper, I believe she has been graced by God with her gift of music. You can learn more about Lynn and her music at www.LynnCooperMusic.com .

:bowdown2: Jennifer Knapp is absolutely the best, in nearly every genre; christian, rock, contemporary female singers even (and I shudder to admit this) even her 'country-ish songs are wondrous!

My 16 year old daughter absolutely loves Rebecca St. James. I have to admit I really appreciate her “You Are Loved”:

“This is what I long to say to you,
if I had one chance to speak to your heart:
You are loved.
More than you will ever know.
This is what I long to say to you,
if I had one chance to tell you something:
You are loved.
More than you can imagine.”

The above site is all contemporary Catholic artists. We’ve had a number of them visit our parish for concerts since my music director is on the same record label. A lot of them will perform at Catholic youth conferences and things like World Youth Day if you are interested in seeing an all-Catholic concert of contemporary music. One of the reasons that I think you won’t see a lot of Catholic musicians at the same level of general public “fame” is that they have fewer outlets for their music and many of them don’t want to go on the road for extended tours once they have families. It does not mean the music isn’t just as good as the Protestant artists.

There is alot of good contemporary Catholic music out there. Unfortunately, it makes its way into the mass sometimes and thus becomes unpopular or overlooked.

Look at John Michael Talbot’s “Table of Plenty” album. I can listen to his rendition of “One Bread, One Body” over and over. If he could only convert Cat Stevens to Catholicism, what a team they would make!
