Jewish Families who Copy the Bible by Hand

Can any one tell me what the name is for the Jewish families whose tradition it is to make hand copies of the Hebrew Bible? I want to use it as a home school lesson for my son then have him practice his writing by making his own copy. I thought the name was “Sofa” but I was not able to find anything under that name. Thanks in advance for your help.
