Leviticus and Numbers goes into great detail on many Festivals that God wished us to celebrate. The Feast of Hanukah, which is celebrated in John (chapter 10) is not in Leviticus or Numbers, of course. It’s not created until 174 BC, when Judas Maccabeas purged the Temple.

My question is, are there any other Festivals celebrated in the New Testament that are not described in the Old Testament?

Yes, I know Hanukah is described in Maccabees, but some of our brethren don’t consider that part of the Old Testament, so let’s not go there, please! Perhaps another thread.

Thank you!

Hi NotWorthy,

Well, I don’t know what’s mentioned in the Gospels or not but Hanukkah (jewfaq.org/holiday7.htm) was not the first extra-Levitcus/Numbers holyday to be proclaimed & acclaimed. Purim (jewfaq.org/holiday9.htm) is the focus of the events of the Book of Esther & the institution of the holyday itself is referred to in Esther 8 & 9. But the fast days referred to in Zechariah 7 & 8 (all of which we still keep; jewfaq.org/holidayd.htm & jewfaq.org/holidaye.htm) were created/marked even earlier.

Howzat?

Be well!
