Can’t find a link (sorry mods), but Aux Bishop Richard Lennon (who served as apostolic admin of Boston following Cardinal Law’s resignation) who has been serving as vicar general of Boston has been named to succeed Bp Anthony Pilla.

Maybe Edwin or Fr. Bro. can provide additional information.

I searced the Plain Dealer’s website and a couple a news stations, but I didn’t see anything. Nor on the diocese’s website. I guess it’s not “news” yet.

According to www.catholic-hierarchy.com, this is true.

13 Dec 2002 AppointedApostolic Administrator of Boston, Massachusetts, USA
1 Jul 2003 ResignedApostolic Administrator of Boston, Massachusetts, USA
4 Apr 2006 AppointedBishop of Cleveland, Ohio, USA

…and here is the official announcement from the Holy See.
I didn’t doubt that it was true. This is typical of Cleveland news. The only Catholic story they seem interested in lately is some poor pastor who embezzled money to pay off someone who was blackmailing him with threats of exposing their alleged affair.

Yikes…some folks in Boston aren’t sad to see this guy go…one commentator called him “the hatchet man who came down on the priests who called on Cardinal Law to resign”.

Who are these “commentators”? Do you have a link?

Mike Barnacle apparently went into a rant on his radio show…I think he writes for the Boston Globe.

A fine neutral source.

Didn’t say he was neutral…but it does give you some idea of how messed up things got in Boston when the “mainstream” media has an opinon on a Bishop’s transfer to another diocese.

Not at all - the Church in Boston has been a power player for 100 years. Read anything about Boston history since Hugh O’Brien was elected mayor (and even before) and you will understand that the “mainstream” media in Boston has for a century been interested in any major Church happening.

Certainly things were messed up. Certainly the Globe is Anti-Catholic. Quoting the Globe - or Barnacle in particular - is like quoting Bob Jones University - hardly a surprise that it’s anti-Catholic. And hardly reliable as a measure of what Catholics think.

I wonder is Bishop Lennon conservative?

I’m a Byzantine Catholic and we have our own Bishop.

I’ll see my brother (Fr. Bro.) tomorrow and I’m sure he may know more about this event.

The Holy See has obviously appointed a bishop to shepherd over the flock of the Cleveland Diocese.

The neighboring Diocese of Youngstown, Ohio has been without a Bishop for more than a year, since Bishop Tobin was transferred to the Providence, RI Diocese. Bishop Tobin is originally from Pittsburgh, and my guess is - when the Vatican gets around to it, they will appoint another Pittsburgh bishop to the Diocese of Youngstown.

Why would you think that the next bishop will be from Pittsburgh. Only Tobin came from there. None of the other bishops did.
I plan to pick up a Plain Dealer tomorrow to check local reaction.

We have put the Cleveland Diocese on our prayer list. Good luck with Lennon he is indeed a hatchet man.
Edwin don’t count him playing nice with conservatives. In our meeting with him on reconfiguuration which he walked out of. He told us not to bother to pray it wasn’t going to stop him closing our Church. He has no sympathies for conservatives or tradionalists.
Best wishes Cleveland.

Just because he closed your parish does not mean he anti-conservative or anti-traditionalist.

It wasn’t just about closing our Church. He had alot more to say about those of us that love the TLM the FSSP and conservatives. We have the most vocations in the diocese ( 9 in 10 years)but they go to the wrong orders.
His throwing out VOTF had more to do with himself than their positions on the Church.

Are you upset? I said it’s only a guess.
Youngstown is as close to Pittsburgh as it is to Cleveland.

Here’s why I think so:
Bishop Tobin, now in Providence, RI
Bishop Zubik, of Green Bay, Wisconsin
Bishop DeNardo of Houston

All are recent appointments and all were bishops or priests under Bishop Wuerl of Pittsburgh. Wuerl worked at the Vatican, knows his way around there, and is well respected there.
Current bishops are asked who would be good candidates for the episcopacy and are also asked who they think would make good appointments to open positions. +JPII+ knew Bishop Wuerl well, and I assume so does Benedict XVI.
