This may seem like nothing, but I still wonder about this.
Based on GIRM (below), Is appropriate for a priest to walk in the aisles between the pews for the homily (entire homily). When visiting relatives, the priest there always does this. Some say they like it. Some say they find it distracting.

“136. The priest, standing at the chair or at the ambo itself or, when appropriate, in another suitable place, gives the homily. When the homily is completed, a period of silence may be observed.”

Thanks

The 1975 GIRM gave this instruction, which ruled out priests wandering in the aisles to give their homilies:

“The homily is to be given at the chair or at the lectern” (GIRM, 1975 ed., 97).

Now the instruction is as you quoted:

“The priest, standing at the chair or at the ambo itself or, when appropriate, in another suitable place, gives the homily. When the homily is completed, a period of silence may be observed” (GIRM, 2002 ed., 136; emphasis added).

While not definitively allowing wandering – in fact, still mandating standing – this new instruction does appear to give some leeway for where the priest may give the homily. The preference though, barring “appropriate” reason to do otherwise, is for the priest to stand at the presider’s chair or at the ambo.
