Lunch lady slammed for food that is 'too good’
Annika Eriksson, a lunch lady at school in Falun, was told that her cooking is just too good.
Pupils at the school have become accustomed to feasting on newly baked bread and an assortment of 15 vegetables at lunchtime, but now the good times are over.
The municipality has ordered Eriksson to bring it down a notch since other schools do not receive the same calibre of food - and that is “unfair”.
Moreover, the food on offer at the school doesn’t comply with the directives of a local healthy diet scheme which was initiated in 2011, according to the municipality.
“A menu has been developed… It is about making a collective effort on quality, to improve school meals overall and to try and ensure everyone does the same,” Katarina Lindberg, head of the unit responsible for the school diet scheme, told the local Falukuriren newspaper.
However, Lindberg was not aware of Eriksson’s extraordinary culinary efforts and how the decision to force her to cut back had prompted outrage among students and parents.
“It has been claimed that we have been spoiled and that it’s about time we do as everyone else,” Eriksson said.
She insisted, however, that her creative cooking has not added to the municipality’s expenses.

Not posting this just to knock our Scandinavian friends – this attitude seems to have become pretty near universal.

Dear Didymus–

Yes, that is sadly the case in the US as well. Our children are fed unhealthy foods at school because they are inexpensive. Cash-strapped schools allow fast food in their kitchens and soft drink machines in their halls. Never mind the health of our children! 😦

Marxism run amok. So the lunch lady at this particular school cares about the nourishment of her children must be shamed because the other schools care more about their supervisor and teacher salaries over the children.

I say shame on them.

I have no issue with soft drink machines in the hall. If the schools don’t sell sodas the kids will bring them in to school in their back packs. At least this way the schools get a few dimes from the sell of sodas. The federal government needs to stay out of the school lunch room. The school where I work was offering healthy delicious meals…that they can no longer offer because they don’t meet federal guidelines. The results? More expense to the school…more kids carrying a lunch…more food thrown out…hungry kids.

How do you ask a cook to “bring it down a notch?” Is that like asking an athlete to bring it down a notch? Do musicians know how to bring it down a notch? I’m an engineer, how would someone tell me to bring it down a notch? Leave a few errors in my design? Be a little more careless?

That’s also a great message to the kids – study hard, but don’t study too hard. “Hey, straight-A students, can you bring it down a notch?”

Vonnegut:

The year was 2081, and everybody was finally equal. They weren’t only equal before God and the law. They were equal every which way. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else. All this equality was due to the 211th, 212th, and 213th Amendments to the Constitution, and to the unceasing vigilance of agents of the United States Handicapper General.

Some things about living still weren’t quite right, though. April for instance, still drove people crazy by not being springtime. And it was in that clammy month that the H-G men took George and Hazel Bergeron’s fourteen-year-old son, Harrison, away…

In the world of the radical egalitarian progressive, it would never occur to require the other schools to "bring it up a notch ".

This happens in lots of areas. I call it the public school attitude. Better the kids should be equally ignorant than have some kids excel and cause loss of self-esteem for the kids who fall behind.

In our city, the local school district decided that all our older schools should have air conditioning, because the newer suburban schools in other districts had it. Since it would be unfair for some schools to be air conditioned while others were not, they asked for a billion dollar bond issue, and added stuff like an extra gym for all middle schools, so they would not have to bother with scheduling separate classes for boys and girls.

Local Catholics schools just added air conditioners one classroom at a time as the funds became available. The huge bond issue was defeated, even though it was scaled back to a half billion. Most Catholic schools now have air conditioners, while the public schools are trying for a smaller bond issue and starting classes in August without air conditioning seems like a bad idea.

HA!! that would not be “fair” how you dare! pfft more effort being required of the others unheard of. Easier to dumb it down.

If the health of the children is in jeopardy, why aren’t the parents packing the kids’ lunches?

Institutional food has always been bad. From grade school through college, I can’t remember one good meal. Mom made my lunch until I was old enough to make my own.

Its easier to let the government feed them - breakfast and lunch.

I guess the school systems like their industrial slop. Far be it for some to rain on their parade and want better for the kids who actually have to eat it. 🤷

Reminds me of what a priest once told me, “If you level the mountains and fill in the valleys you’re left with a parking lot.” We have different gifts and abilities for a reason.

How dare someone do a good job. Someone put a stop to that immediately, it’s just not fair!
