Matthew Fox was “de-frocked” by Cardinal Ratzinger back in the 90’s and now the former Dominican priest is seeking revenge by going to Germany and posting his new 95 thesis in a similar Martin Luther way. www.matthewfox.org Fox has alot of followers here in the San Francisco Bay area…including my daughter. He was housed by the Sisters of the Holy Names in Oakland for many years during his rebel period. He then started his new mystical spiritualism religion in Oakland and attracted alot of the bright Berkeley students and alumni. This man is out for blood! He absolutely hates our new pope and I am very sad that my daughter is one of his prey.

He shows how Christ centered his view really is in theses 20. His views are defined as opposed to Catholicism. I don’t see how anyone can take this cooc seriously.

Add number 30 to that. He sounds more and more lost and hatefull the more I read.

Thanks for sending your second post as a reminder that only the first 20 theses are on the first page. To continue reading the rest of his theses it is necessary to click “…theses…” on the left border.
I was invited to one of his “masses” a few years ago. I was expecting a Mass. It was an “event” with flashing pictures on the ceiling and walls, lots of pagan dancing, drumming, chanting, 3rd world music, and people with strange "hippy type clothing…and some semi-nude women dancers. There was even a “communion” ceremony where everyone could take the bread. Of course, I did not take the fake communion.
When I accepted the invitation to attend the event I was unaware that Matthew Fox was a de-frocked priest.

If you think the theses are bizarre, read his rant on Pope Benedict and John Paul II. Is Fox a homosexual?

Lisa,
For those posters who don’t have the time right now to read all the choices on the left border I suggest they take the time later. I’m glad you read the rant. I don’t know if he is homosexual but he certainly believes people should express their sexuality freely. He sounds more like a hippy than a homosexual. Many of his followers attend the “Burning Man” pagan festival in Nevada over the Labor Day weekend.

I can’t say that I’m an expert on prophecy, but isn’t there an end time prophecy that has to do with the Antichrist and a “great apostasy”? There are may points in these theses that would have great appeal to many people, particularly young people. I don’t think this guy is someone to ignore or merely laugh off. We should all keep our eye on this kind of nonsense, particularly in its proximity to our children.

This guys ideas aren’t new. The new age religions have incorporated these ideas about sexuality and other things.

It was interesting…to say the least. Comparing the anticipated acceptance of homosexual marriage with the Church’s acceptance of Galileo’s work seems a wee bit far fetched.

And this benefits them how? He sounds like one of the Merry Pranksters after a very bad trip. Reading some of his work I was rocketed back to 1968 where he seems quite mired.

Now that sounds even more interesting. It amazes me these nutjobs get some kind of following. Thanks for posting the link it was really enlightening.

I remember thinking back a couple years ago, when the Raelian thing was getting popular, that it was going to be BIG.

I was like, “Man, this Raelian stuff is going to spread like wildfire, it’s major.” And, well, not to downplay any major impact that their (his) teaching had on many, many people, you know what, soon after it was “popularly publicized,” you just stopped hearing about it. Thank God too, really, Praise Him!!

Sometimes these groups fizzle out within a couple years, sometimes they endure for a while. And then, sadly, sometimes they really, truly, physically kill themselves.

Much of the appeal, I think, is the staunchness that the followers hold to a certain aspect of their beliefs. That’s appealing to many, even though they at first don’t believe in whatever.

Ok, that’s enough, I didn’t mean to write that much.

Matthew Fox is associated with the California Institute of Integral Studies where my wonderful niece is getting her doctorate in “Women’s Spirituality.” **Please keep her in your prayers ** – she has been involved in the New Age movement for years and is getting more deeply mired in the darkness.

Anyway, with places like CIIS, Fox, Starhawk, et al, are trying to keep their dark dream alive. Fox and his generation might be gone in a few years, but they are trying their best to spread their false doctrine before they go.

thann,

I have a brother who a who got a graduate degree in psychology at the CIIS. What do you know about the place? His Catholic faith was pretty shaky going in and is no better today. What kind of nonsense did they teach them there?

God bless,

Judeluke, check out their Web site in great detail. I was skeptical when my niece was going there to get this “Women’s Spirituality” PhD, so I did some research on their own site. The “classes” and seminars they offer are ultra-feminist and some nonsense called “ecofeminist.” People like Matthew Fox, Starhawk, and Charlene Spretnak are on the faculty or are adjuncts. Look at their course offerings in detail (syllabi are available on their site). Look at the TITLES of the courses the offer.

Utter New Age nonsense. Check out, for example, this page of courses in the Philosophy and Religion department.

Check out the “credentials” of the profs in the psychology department. Pretty scary stuff.

Not a place for someone shaky in their Catholic faith, which is why I am praying for my niece.

A lot of Fox’s stuff sounds like liberation theology, relativism, and anti-Catholism all gift-wrapped in a package of HERESY.

Ah, this is at least a partial answer to my thread on neo-paganism and wiccan practices under Church auspices. I knew that Fox had been defrocked since the book “Ungodly Rage” was written, but I hadn’t heard a lot about any of his other partners in crime. Except Starhawk - she appears occasionally at the UU “church” near our home.

How distressing to hear that this stuff is still going on. I hope that it will burn out as the generation mired in the 60’s philosophy (my own generation, sad to say) begins to age and lose the energy to keep up with this garbage.

I think he’s one of these people who are only happy when they’re in opposition to something. You hold his @#^(! up and compare it to the “Splendor of Truth” and you realize how absurd he sounds. A wind and a fury, but there’s no storm behind it.

thann,

I am not sure I understand half of what is posted on thier website. There seems to be alot of lot of double talking I’m okay your okay east west be yourself don’t worry be happy stuff going on at the school. But what do I know. Thanks for the info. I will continue to pray for him and his family. The Holy Spirit can do wonderful things we need to keep the faith.
