In reading through various discussion threads I noticed that belonging or joining the Masons was against Church teaching. My husband asked me to post this question. He has cerebral palsy and was pointed to the Shriners Hospital when he was newborn. He spent many years in and out of their hospital sometimes spending months there. Is it wrong for a devout, practicing Catholic to seek medical help from this organization. Is this a sin or something that should be confessed?

Dear Leisa

There is nothing wrong with accepting help from people who have some values which differ from ours… Mother Teresa was criticized for accepting money from organized crime. Her thought on it was that she was giving them an opportunity to do some good.
