HI,

Does anyone know of any catholic men’s fellowship in No.Va or DC? I live in Arlington/Shirlington.

I’m not sure if I posted this at the right place. But thanks in advance for your help.

Ben

Have looked into the Knights of Columbus? They are strong on faith, fellowship, family, plus service to church and community.

Have you joined a parish yet? Usually such groups–including Knights of Columbus–are associated with a particular parish. Also, if you are originally from the Phillipines, you might join a Catholic parish that has other Phillipinos.

Check out :

Blessed Sacrament in Alexandria, VA
St. Rita in Alexandria VA

Go straight to the Catholic Information Center!!! I’m not a man, but when I lived out there they had many different fellowship groups for men, women, men and women, etc. I know they moved locations a few years ago, but just look them up (I think they’re a little northwest of the White House). It’s a book story and they have a chapel where there are some great speakers. They have priests there for mass and confession at least once a week. It was started by Opus Dei and I am assuming it is still being run by Opus Dei (even though Fr. McCluskey is now out here in Chicago, I"m sure he left the place in good hands).

If you’re interested in working with the youth of the area, check out Youth Apostles in McLean. They’re a group of single, married, consecrated and religious guys and they’re just awesome! There are 5 priests associated with YA and they each work as chaplains in various locations, like George Mason University (w00t). They also help out as moderators for youth groups at various parishes in the area. All in all, they’re awesome guys and are worthy of checking out, even if you’re not so sure about the serving the youth part.😉

There’s also Theology on Tap - young adults of both genders getting together at various bars and listening to a speaker on various issues of the faith. You’ll get to know people pretty fast and find out firsthand through them where they go for fellowship. Believe me, the circle of devout Catholic young adults in the DC area is super small. It’s like the 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon, except the 2 degrees of whatever-their-name-is. 🙂 I’m still in college, so maybe it’ll take a while, but I hope I get to meet you and welcome you to the Arlington Diocese soon!

Hey, neighbor, 😉

I also live in Shirlington. I go to a small (about ten guys), solid men’s group every two weeks at St. Mary’s in Old Town. We’re all starting to get to know each other, but I’m finding that this one night every two weeks is critically important to keeping me grounded–and I usually loathe things like “men’s groups.”

We start with a rosary, then discuss the gospel reading for the following Sunday. Then we usually discuss something else–usually a book, maybe a reading from Chesterton, whatever. While we’re doing that last bit, we mow through a stack of pizzas and pass around a six pack or two.

The new priest is our spiritual advisor. He hears confessions while we pray the rosary.

In summary–prayer, Bible study, good conversation, friendly guys, pizza and beer. PM me for details. 👍

Christopher
