I really don’t listen to this show on any regular basis. I had to pick my son up from track tonight. I heard about 10 minutes, and Michael Savage said the Catholic Church instigated the Immigration protests in California. He was rambling, but he mentioned the priest scandal, greed, and corruption. He was on a rant. I turned it off, but did anyone else hear any of this and is he usually anti Catholic like he was today?

He is constantly on rant.

Michael Savage is the equivalent on the right to the hate mongers on the left. If you are not in lockstep with him, you are a liberal.

I cannot even listen to the sewage than comes from him.

Apparetly you are right about him. I don’t usually listen, but this station was on in my car and the first thing I heard was this rant on the Catholic church. I listened for a few minutes to make sure I was understanding him. I never did get it.

I’m pretty conservative politically ~ and I often agree with him. But I listening to him a long time ago because of his dark tone and his anger… it’s just not good for me.
I’m glad I didn’t hear him today, but just add him to the long list of catholic haters.
Illegal immigration is his #1 pet peeve.

The man is an opportunist. I don’t think he really believes anything. Conservative talk radio is where the money is, so that’s where Savage is.

He mostly panders to the evangelicals. That’s where his bread is buttered, so to speak.

Mr Savage (not his real name) reminds me of “Angry Man”. I pretty much stopped listening to him two years ago when he was complaining about his trip to Rome and he had paid his money to go see the Sistine Chapel and he had climbed those stairs (if you’ve been there, you remember those stairs) and at the top of the stairs there was a vending machine selling coke and pepsi - he said right then and there he new established religion was garbage…out for your money! I lost what little respect I had for the man. Listen to Michael Medved! He is a wonderful man. And a good friend of Catholics!

My goodness, so he really goes off on Catholics often? I have been to the Sistine Chapel- in fact just a few weeks ago. I have to tell you that I never saw the Pepsi Machine. I do remember the stairs and the whole Vatican Museum was a real experience. However, I had a feeling of awe, not of disgust of organized religion. It seems he went there with an agenda.

I agree that Michael Medved is a balanced historian and a friend of the Catholics. I am not looking to be a fan of Savage. I just happened to catch the rant.

Isn’t Rome beautiful? It is amazing how differently people can look at Rome. Like Michael Savage’s disgust with the vending machines. My non-catholic in-laws see the Catholic Church as some wealthy institution not feeding the poor, etc and I all I saw in Rome was this most magnificent art and architecture (almost free if you just want to visit basilicas) and how all this art and was created by souls in love with God and His Church.

I listen to Savage from time to time. I agree with a lot of what he says. But his tone gets to me - and I have to stop listening. Iheard him once say that the Catholic Church is the only hope for morality in the world today. However, it doesn’t supirise me to hear of his rant - one day he’ll call President Bush a great man - then the minute Bush does something Savage does not agree with - Bush is all of a sudden left of Bill Clinton. Most of SAvage’s show os about how great Savage’s show is.

I agree with most posters on this thread - Micheal Medved is the best talk show host on the air (besides, of course, Jim Rome). Has anybody read his book Right Turns? Is it any good?

I admit to listening to Savage (Being in SF and all 😉 ) and do find him and his opinions interesting and enlightening, if controversial, at times. A little goes a long ways…

From what I’ve heard he is generally anti-established religion but believes strongly that religion, primarily the Judeo-Christian ethic, is what saves this country and the world. I’ve also heard him say the Catholic Church as a whole is the only moral authority, it seems to me he understands the struggle we deal with in the Church as we do in the world, the struggle for Truth. He seems to know there is a struggle between “right” and “left” in the Church today, and I think that may be what he was referencing (I didn’t hear him today). I’ve heard him speak of Cardinal Mahoney, and politically he is not in line with Cardinal Mahoney’s prior actions, etc. I’m pretty sure if he was ranting on the Church, the protests, and California, he was probably talking of the Cardinal, who is outspoken about the immigration reform bill. :twocents:

I second (or third…) the praise for Michael Medved. I listen to him whenever I can. Dennis Praeger (sp?) also has good things to say about the Church.

*Right Turns *was great! He is a gifted man. (oh, and almost a neighbor although I have never bumped into him) It is amazing how similar his faith and views are to the Catholic Church. He has a healthy respect for the Catholic Church and said on the air he thought Pope John Paul II was one of the greatest people who ever lived.

Savage is no Limbaugh. Savage spews bile from his mouth that is oftentimes completely at odds with the Church. His conservatism is full on reactionary politics, not social conservatism.

He’s the male Anne Coulter for the radical right.

And guess who came to his defense and wouldnt even denounce in strong terms when he told a caller one time…“I hope you get aids and die”…

None other than Mr. Catholic (radical)rightwinger himself, Sean Hannity.

Guilt by association? Context - I don’t know why Hannity wouldn’t condemn those remarks, but I’m sure there’s a charitable reason.

Michael Savage tenants are predominantly in harmony with the Catholic Church. He deviates with his rants but is mostly consistant. He beliefs in a revival of conservatism. I listen and applaud his actions. It seems as if we have some liberal critics.

Also, He is justified in his bashing of the Church’s body. Many Bishops on the West coast are dissenting from the doctrines and Dogmas of the Catholic Church. This Bishop Garcia and Immigration ralies are ANTI CATHOLIC INSURECTIONS!!! The Catholic Church has forbide ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION. They invite immigrants but discourage the breaching of THE AMERICAN SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT!
SO STOP THIS bias labeling of SAVAGE!

  1. Yes, I read it.
  2. No, not really. It is a never-ending story of how great Michael Medved is, and how many important people have played a role in his life. I found it tedious and self-serving. If you want to read it check it out at the library.

I have never in my long, long life heard anyone in the media (or for that matter, privately), use such horrible language about the Church. Moreover, he put down all the rest of us who happen to be, in his very own words, “intelligent, educated and white,” because no one like that would be dumb enough to fill the pews in Catholic Churches. In saying this, he not only demeaned all of us, but he implied (or he may have said more specifically), that those coming into the country were correspondingly dumb and would fill the empty pews. That’s why the Church is corrupt “from the top down” He also said that it was “molesters” in the Church that organized the immigration and/or the demonstrations (I didn’t hear exactly which thing.).

There was more. It was unbelievable.

Keep the faith,

(and you might just check out his sponsors. Also: I called the Catholic League as soon as I heard this, and you might want to, also, if you heard it.)

Sometimes the satire involved most be overlooked to reveal his true meaning. He sees the Liberal Bishops as a hinderance to the Greatness of our Nation. I readily agree.
God Bless
