The Telegraph:
More teal vicar? Colourful clergy show off new robes on catwalk
The modelling ministers are showing off the latest designs at an annual Christian event nicknamed The Ideal Church Show this week.
But some of the outfits, from an electric blue dress for female clergy to a full Easter tableau on the front of a flowing white smock, may shock traditionalists used to a simple dog collar.
Senior Anglican figures are hoping to show that the church is modernising and can attract younger audiences to it.
Seven clergy from churches in the North West will be taking to the ‘righteous runway’ to exhibit the designs at the Christian Resources Exhibition in Manchester this week.
Called Clergy on the Catwalk it features designers Juliet Hemingray, Hayes and Finch, Cross Designs and J&M Sewing.
The Bishop of Middleton, Rt Rev Mark Davies, said: "It will be interesting to see the variety of clergy robes produced by contemporary designers.
"The church has modernised so much in the past 20 years and what clergy wear reflects that change.
“Gone are the 50 shades of grey and in has come a spectrum of colour and design which can be seen in everything from a Church of England royal wedding to the humblest Christening in one of our smaller churches.”
😦

The blouses are surprisingly dowdy, especially the one on the left.

I think the Easter robe is pretty awesome and captures the joy of the day.

I alway enjoy the Church’s vestments have pretty much stayed the same over the course of time.
Just like how Mass is described in the Book of Revelation where Jesus is clothed as High Priest. Our priests also clothe themselves as “alter Christuses” (other Christs) in offering His sacrifice in the Holy Mass on earth and priests wear special vestments in heaven. Our priests also wear special vestments in celebrating the Holy Mass on earth.

LOL. Life meets comedy.

I really didn’t like any of the ones I saw. I do like beautiful vestments but the ones in htat article didn’t really strike my fancy. :o

Could be worse:shrug:, though they’re not great. A fashion parade for clerical wear and vestments. Something is going wrong somewhere.
I’m sure I came across this on CAF somewhere before, but check out some of the abominations in the archives of this blog:

Why ever? If the traditional cross were on the back, and we don’t know that this chasuble doesn’t have such, it would be perfectly fine IMO.
Agreed. My home priest had one that was made for him by the parishioners in a mission church where he stayed for 5 years in Africa. It is beautiful, brilliant, vibrant, and completely and utterly captured the JOY that is our Lord. I loved it. It didn’t detract from the Mass in any way. Rather, it reminded me of the universality of our Church.

Who cares? They aren’t Catholic.

Ministers/preachers/priests/shamans/whatever will wear items they are permitted to wear.

Agreed. How does wearing hippy-inspired clothing reach out to the youth today? :ehh:
Hippy-inspired clothing? Where have you been since 1965? Haight-Ashbury isn’t full of love childen any more.

But, you’re right about one thing. The beads and headbands and vests and other accouterments you wore in the late 60s are not at all what the young re wearing today, 50 odd years later. 🙂

There are neo-hippies also. Very strange phenomena. I had a friend like this. He would go shoeless outside at times! 😃

He didn’t bathe regularly either. . . . . . .

As 1965 was the year of my birth, I have been everywhere since then and I certainly didn’t dress like a hippy.

I was referring to the hippy styling of the robes and clothing in the article. They have nothing to do with Haight-Ashbury. If you think the youth somehow respond better to such ugly clothing, then you are free to think that.

this is so messed up.
Yes it is.

I asked a non Catholic youth in my household what she thought of it. She said the picture of the pastor made her wonder which level of youth they are trying to reach because he looks like he stepped out of a Fisher Price toy set.

A lot of it reminds me of my childhood… similar to the Sunshine Family toys.
