New Lectionary / RSV-CE 2nd ED

Ignatius Press recently released a minor update to the RSV-CE, a 2nd edition. With this release they also released a lectionary. I’m sure a good many of us would prefer this to the modified-NAB lectionary. Does anyone here have any idea if the USA will ever approve it’s use? And is there anything Catholics can do that might encourage this? I have been thinking that since they are just now in the middle of revising the English translation of the Mass and maybe we could effect this change at the same time.

Any thoughts on this new lectionary?

Honestly, I doubt that it will happen. The USCCB is probably content with the current lectionary, and they would seem to have a bias in favor of the NAB, which is the semi-official translation in the U.S. I wish the bishops would approve a better translation, but I’m not getting my hopes up.

And is there anything Catholics can do that might encourage this?

Write to your local bishop and the Bishops’ Committee on the Liturgy.

Any thoughts on this new lectionary?

My one thought is that I don’t buy the publisher’s claim that it conforms to Redemptionis Sacramentum. For one, phrases like “Amen, amen, I say to you…” should be translated using the original semetic words that were used in the Greek, not as “Truly, truly, I say to you…”

Nevertheless, it would be a huge improvement over our current lectionary.

Interestingly enough the modified-NAB used in the lectionary does say “Amen, amen…” instead of “Truly, truly…”.

Would this suggest that the modified-lectionary-NAB is really closer to Redemptionis Sacramentum in some places than the RSV-CE 2nd ed??? I’m not saying it’s a great translation but couldn’t Ignatius Press have at least conformed to Redemptionis Sacramentum in all places that the NAB did? Especially if they wanted to compete with and hopefully replace it as a lectionary?
