From my understanding, which has been known to be wrong from time to time so correct me is I am wrong, that the Church teaches that there is no more private revelation, like Ellen G. White and Joseph Smith claim to have had, and that it ended with the apostles. Why? Why did private revelation stop with them? Thanks and God bless.

There is no more Public Revelation. Many people have or have been said to have private revelations but these we do not have to believe.

Very true Thistle. We do not have to believe private revelation.

You have the term wrong, it’s public revelation. And, it ended with the Apostles because they were the ones directly taught by Jesus. Jesus was the final, and complete, revelation of God. There is no further revelation because there is nothing more to reveal.

“Private revelation” is what we call specific spiritual direction and messages given to visionaries-- those who receive visions or locutions from one of the Saints or Jesus. Those are for the person to whom they are given, although the messages they receive may have spiritual benefit for the general public-- like the call to prayer, or the propogation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet for example. However, in private revelation there is no new doctrine given.
