From Foreign Policy: U.S. President Barack Obama issued a new executive order last week to fight human trafficking, touting his administration’s handling of the issue.

“When a little boy is kidnapped, turned into a child soldier, forced to kill or be killed – that’s slavery,” Obama said in a speech at the Clinton Global Initiative. “It is barbaric, and it is evil, and it has no place in a civilized world. Now, as a nation, we’ve long rejected such cruelty.”

But for the third year in a row, Obama has waived almost all U.S. sanctions that would punish certain countries that use child soldiers, upsetting many in the human rights community.

Late Friday afternoon, Obama issued a presidential memorandum waiving penalties under the Child Soldiers Protection Act of 2008 for Libya, South Sudan, and Yemen, penalties that Congress put in place to prevent U.S. arms sales to countries determined by the State Department to be the worst abusers of child soldiers in their militaries. The president also partially waived sanctions against the Democratic Republic of the Congo to allow some military training and arms sales to that country.
The memo itself:MEMORANDUM FOR THE SECRETARY OF STATE

SUBJECT: Determination with Respect to the Child Soldiers Prevention Act of 2008

Pursuant to section 404 of the Child Soldiers Prevention Act of 2008 (CSPA) (title IV, Public Law 110-457), I hereby determine that it is in the national interest of the United States to waive the application of the prohibition in section 404(a) of the CSPA with respect to Libya, South Sudan, and Yemen; and further determine that it is in the national interest of the United States to waive in part the application of the prohibition in section 404(a) of the CSPA with respect to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to allow for continued provision of International Military Education and Training funds and nonlethal Excess Defense Articles, and the issuance of licenses for direct commercial sales of U.S. origin defense articles; and I hereby waive such provisions accordingly.

You are authorized and directed to submit this determination to the Congress, along with the accompanying Memorandum of Justification, and to publish the determination in the Federal Register.

BARACK OBAMA

Why did this take till 6 weeks before an election?
You’ll note that it was dumped on a late Friday afternoon.

Foreign Policy is sort of a targeted publication…but they’re basically the only ones who picked this up.

Any guesses on how many stories there are when doing a Google News search on the terms: “child soldiers obama memo waiver”? Exactly one (at least, as of 5:39 AM on 10/2/2012).

So I’d bet it is not going to be a big issue with the main stream media.

It’s kinda odd that the MSM had not picked it up at least.

I fear that we wont make it to the election. I fear obama will install himself as dictator and waive every law in the process. This man has no heart at all. He is satanic and an agent of satan.

Thanks for posting this, I was not aware of this. As you said, the mainstream media did not cover this…

Welcome to Pravda. If this was Bush, the media headlines would read “Bush’s war on kids.”

I reposted this: Maybe, it will show up in the search engines? Thank you!🙂

Obama has the mainstream media in his pocket. Of course they wouldn’t report it! I wonder if Fox News Channel will pick it up though. They are good at catching those Friday afternoon dumps.

Not really, Mark…I googled the issue and found pages of information going back years, including the Washington Post from 2010…hardly an anti-Obama publication. washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/10/27/AR2010102707157.html

This is, and was, out there, including the mainstream news. Now it’s an issue because of the election. Before, I suspect few people really cared. That is certainly a shame - for everyone, left and right, IMHO.

This is the person who some TRUST with their Heath care we have to pass it before we know what’s in it - Nancy Pelosi ] and social justice?

Executive fiat - bypassing Congress, is his favorite tool.

This waiver was signed last Friday, not 2010. I would submit that a story decrying the idea of child soldiers written in 2010 did not discuss Mr Obama’s waiver signed on Sept 28, 2012.

The point is it’s a story that’s been around for years now, and is amply set forth in google. It’s an election year, relax.

How does Obama define a child? In the US and UK a child is a person under the age of 18 but under 18’s can still join the army (with parental consent).

So you are suggesting that I return to a hypnotic trance until the election is over (keep chanting my mantra Obama–Obama–Obama)?

No other President of the United States has ever waived this. Just because the state run media propagandists don’t think its with mentioning doesn’t mean its not. Yet didn’t think Fast and Furious was with discussing either. Thank goodness for Univision.

The reason it hasn’t made the news is due to the fact that most news organizations recieved the FULL and COMPLETE information from Foreign Policy. The actual document is a little over 5 pages long and outlines why the named countries are being treated as they are. The person who made the original post must have overlooked the rest of the information. But go ahead and google the law and the full copy is the 2nd or 3rd item.

This makes me think of an interview I saw last night on Bill O’Reilly’s show on Fox News. He interviewed Democratic Pollster Pat Caddell who thinks that there is a cover-up related to the recent assassination of the American Ambassador in Libya which the MSM won’t report on.

It is appauling that the MSM won’t touch any of this but instead continues pressing their lovefest towards Obama. Shame itself is insulted by this kind of behavior

Surely, you are not surprised?
