So the last couple days I have been so fearful that a demon/enemy will curse me with a fatal incurable disease like AIDS,cancer etc…

Does the devil or a curse have that power?

I can’t even sleep at night because I’m worried if I’m asleep then thts when the demon will come and I will have no way of fighting back

When I get like that I just ask the Blessed Mother for comfort and protection through Hail Mary’s. It never seems to fail.

Fear, anxiety, and lack of sleep all are factors that reduce the ability of your immune system.

So personally I don’t think a demon can infect you directly with the disease, but if the demon can keep you in this fear and anxiety then you may become more susceptible.

Anger, anxiety, fear, these are all emotions you mind experiences when it’s in “protection mode.” They actually shut down the immune system and cause more blood to be pumped toward the extremities (for a “fight or flight” situation). They do this because under normal conditions the body supplies the immune system with a lot of energy. So if you are afraid or angry, then you might have to run or fight. Thus the extra blood circulation to empower the extremities.

Love, gratitude, joy, serenity, forgiveness – these things work just the opposite. They take the brain out of “protection” mode and into “growth” mode. They restore the blood flow to the brain and internal organs, and put the immune system back online.

This is yet another reason Jesus said to love our enemies instead of hating them, and to pay back evil with kindness. The more you think and act in these positive ways, the more your brain remains in “growth” mode and the wiser you become and the stronger the immune system is. So for short term gain, yes punch him in the mouth. But long term gain, just keep becoming stronger and wiser to the point you are spirit-led and have confidence the words will be given to you when the time comes.

And when we forgive 70*7, it isn’t because we aren’t holding the other accountable. It’s because each time we forgive, we get just a bit stronger.

So stay the course. Trust the Lord at least with hope but eventually with conviction. Ultimately, love conquers all. Matt 6:33-34, “But seek first the kingdom (of God) and his righteousness, and all these things will be given you besides. Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself. Sufficient for a day is its own evil.”

There we are again. Don’t worry, because worry implies anxiety which is a “protection” emotion, thus it reduces ability to deal with that about which we are worried.

Dear Ben,

Sometimes I get the feeling you are a teenage troll that is toying with us. 😛

But if you are serious, and the many bizarre threads you start are not helping you, then I suggest you get medical help. It is becoming clear that nobody here at CAF has been able to assist you to overcome the wild imaginings of your mind. That’s where you need to press the “delete” button and refuse to allow these thoughts admittance. You obsess over them, irrationally, one thread after another.

One advantage to being bad with remember who said what in the past, is that I take threads like this at face value as a “fresh start.” 😛

Dare I say it? This is a job for CONTEMPLATIVE PRAYER MAN! :knight2:

Time to learn about interior silence. There is no better way I can imagine to deal with thoughts that cause anxiety and sleeplessness – especially if they are irrational thoughts.

When you can’t “brute force” the thoughts out, maybe try turning the other (mental) cheek and see what happens if you just ignore them best you can?

Dear OP, as your spiritual doctor wannabe, I hereby prescribe a healthy consideration of “contemplative prayer,” to which the CCC says in 2708 that prayer “should” progress for a Christian. (See 2700-2724 for more on Expressions of Prayer)

Have you ever heard of contemplative prayer? Maybe I ran across you on other threads and mentioned it – well from what you’re saying it could be very helpful. I had thoughts running so fast I once spent several months literally wallowing on a mattress on the floor 22 hours a day, wishing I could sleep or that thoughts would go away – whatever it took except self-mutilation (and it was a struggle to avoid suicidal thoughts). My only relief was from heavy tranquilizers and even they could only get me so much sleep. Guess what brought me out of it? Much study and prayer, including strong focus on contemplative prayer and how it affected me.

There are different ways to obtain interior silence. But if we’re trying to fight your demons with logic and understanding, they might just keep getting trickier. Much more effective to achieve this inner silence, which help open us up (preparing new wineskins if you will) to receiving healing from God through the Holy Spirit.

Sounds pretty pie in the sky, but it worked for me. I was healed of a terrible “terminal” psychiatric illness, against medical expectations, and I attribute it to 50,000+ hours over 11 years of study and prayer, which but helped open me to receive the healing itself from the Holy Spirit aka the Divine Therapist, so now it’s gone. The healing was from the Lord, but the prayer helped me open myself up to receive it. My psychiatrist says that my current mental health is at a point rarely achieved – even among those who never had mental illness including many medical professionals.

Of course, I’m not saying to bypass medicine; on the contrary without an excellent doctor’s support I’d be locked up and the key thrown away by now.

2 Cor. 1:4 “He comforts us in all our suffering, so that we may be able to comfort others in all their suffering, as we ourselves are being comforted by God.”

Alan, I have no doubt that your sufferings and experience will be helpful to others. Another great post!

I heard a testimony of an ex-satanist/witch who converted to Catholicism that praying the rosary keeps demons away for up to 24 hours.

You can also say, “In the name of Jesus, I renounce the spirit of illness and I command it to leave now! Holy Spirit bring me your light of true healing.”

If you are not healed than God wants you to do the work of redemptive suffering. Offer up your trials for the salvation of souls.

Believe me . I’m not a troll

I’ve been an overanalyzer since I came out of the womb and I always think of scenarios that go unmentioned.

It’s not that CAF doesn’t help. It’s just when I’m fine with one problem, then another problem seems to come up.

There isn’t a day that goes by where I’m no worried about a new fear.

Say, “In the name of Jesus, I renounce the spirit of fear and command it to leave me now. Holy spirit fill me with Your Spirit of courage.”

This is an unreasonable fear. Demons can’t transmit fatal incurable diseases. AIDS is transmitted through sexual contact, shared needles, and inheritance from parents. Cancer is caused by genetic defects, chemical/radiation exposures, and other physical means.

It seems like you have a fear problem, you should talk to either a spiritual director or some kind of counselor about this.

This is called anxiety disorder. You should get professional help.

I understand. I used to build military equipment and one little “detail” missed could mean a problem for national defense, including disabling Air Force 1 radar jamming equipment. I built equipment that if it didn’t work under some incredible environmental conditions, it could either drop a bomb when it wasn’t supposed to be dropped from the B-52 wing – worse if it’s in the bomb bay and the bay doors aren’t opened – or fail to drop when commanded.

So I can’t just take an “approximation” and assume I’m going to be safe with it, until I have reasonable confidence that there are no “devils in the details” so to speak. That could mean that they are in capable hands, or that I understand them enough that I can sort of get my mind around it.

Problem is, usually neither will work. I know there are stones unturned on any issue, so the question my engineering mind needs to answer in order to get anything actually accomplished, is to know “when are we close enough.”

It usually helps me get a little comfort to try to focus my worries on the near enough future that I cease having any particular worries. In other words, I don’t know if I’m going to be sick in two weeks, but I’m pretty sure I have the resources I need (barring very unusual circumstances) to feed the kids this evening. The key is to bring it in. If I can’t be hopeful and trusting of the far future, how about the nearer future? How about long enough to pray a Rosary, for example, as in “I trust the Lord will keep me happy and my loved ones safe for the next 20 minutes” and then do the Rosary.

I’m not saying to distract yourself away from having long term concerns, just to give your mind a break from them for a few moments, just to see what it feels like.
