So how do you organize your papers/documents? Right now I am trying to organize my papers. Everyone has a different style, and I’m curious to know how eveeyone does it, and how to improve. What are some of the methods or supplies that work for you? Do you have a technique in how you categorize papers to make them easier to retrieve?

Right now I make use of binders where I insert the papers so I can flip through them. I don’t have a hanging file cabinet, but I saw that it’s also a good way to store docs.

I just use a small filing cabinet that I got in Ikea. I categorise the documents alphabetically. I used to just put them all in a drawer but that wasn’t particularly effective.

Cheap accordion file. I buy a new one every year, and save the documents for at least 7 years. I put the old accordion files in a metal filing cabinet in my basement (bought it cheap 40 years ago at a yard sale).

I’m working to paperless.

Everything scanned, saved in the cloud and on flash drive/sd card.

I wish I could say I’m on this road as well, but I’m still paper in filing cabinets. A future project includes scanning documents and putting them on flash drives.

That’s my goal, too. I’m still a long way off. But most of my bills and statements come electronically anymore anyway. I’ll probably always keep paper copies of the tax stuff, though.

I went through a big purge a few years back when I moved. It’s time for another one.

Absolutely vital stuff (like identity documents) in a fire-proof safe.

I am planning to do this slowly with my docs. What app do you recommend, or do you use the scanner?

I just use my desktop printer/scanner. LOved my HP then it died after years of us. Next was an Epson because it was inexpensive.
