I just mentioned Pandora in another thread, but I think it deserves it own. This is 21st century radio. You tell the program a song or a band that you like, and it makes a unique radio station for you. You can tell it you don’t like a song, and don’t want to hear it or songs like it again, or that you really like a song and want to hear more of it. You can go straight to the iTMS or Amazon if you want to buy the song. You can add more bands or songs to a station if you want a more varied playlist. It handles all music genres except classical, but they are working on that.
This is really the best way to discover new bands.

Wow, thank you for that! I just tried it out and it’s wonderful! I’ve already discovered a new band that I enjoy.
 
It is really nice, I love the variety and the huge selection available.

I’ve been using the free version for a few months now. Do you know what the perks are if you buy a subscription?

Q: What do I get when I subscribe?

The ad-supported, free version of Pandora and the subscription service have exactly the same features. If you choose to subscribe, we’ll remove all advertising from your Pandora experience. That’s the only difference.

Over time we may decide to make some new features only available to subscribers, but right now we’re focused on making Pandora the best it can be for all of our listeners.

So right now, you only lose the ads if you subscribe. I don’t know about you, but I use the miniplayer, so I don’t get any ads anyway.
