Did anyone happen to catch the Papal Mass for Workers with Pope Benedict XVI on EWTN? It was on this morning, and is currently being rerun.

As someone who has had a lot of complaints about how poor the broadcasting of papal masses have been in the past (i.e., the translators talking too much), I was pleasantly surprised by this one. The commentary was kept to a minimum. One thing that particularly impressed me was how, at the start of the Eucharistic Prayer, the commentator simply stated, “The Holy Father will be using the Third Eucharistic Prayer.” I thought that this was an excellent way of both letting everyone know which prayer the Holy Father would be using, while at the same time not chatting the matter away. I myself like to follow Papal Masses on TV with my missal, so this was particularly helpful, since the mass was in Italian, so the Latin in my missal was of no help for me.

Of course, I would much prefer the Papal Mass itself to be in Latin, but I suppose I can’t complain! I would assume that the mass with the new Cardinals comming up next Saturday will be in Latin, given that the Cardinals are from all over the world, and this shows the universality of the Church, etc.
