So many things I see here are the direct result of protestant influence in the US–individual bell ringing, holding hands, the orans posture, general praise or contemporary Christian singing accompanied by inappropriate instruments in an inappropriate style, and now a play taking the place of the gospel/sermon. Of course, the idea of a verse hymn in the vernacular with modern metrics or a modern style hymn with or without metrics is originally protestant and putatively has never had a proper place in Catholic worship either.
They replaced the passion with a play performed by children. Appalling. There is no other word for it.
Ironically, some protestant churches, including one I was exposed to for a number of years, have seriously considered adopting a Catholic custom. Unfortunately, it is the worst modern liturgical custom they could possibly contemplate: Using an individual cantor singing into a micropone as a song leader.
