Pastor Shot Dead, Wife, Children Missing
SELMER, Tenn. - A church minister was found shot to death in his parsonage, and authorities were searching for his missing wife and three young daughters Thursday.
Church members went searching for Matthew Winkler late Wednesday when he didn’t show up for an evening service at Fourth Street Church of Christ, police said. They used a key to enter the parsonage and found him dead in a bedroom. His family was gone.

I can see why investigators want to talk with the wife.

I can think of 3 plausible scenarios for this tragedy, one of which would be even worse. Although, if the wife were going to kill the kids she would probably have done it at the house. Let’s hope they are found before any more bodies are discovered. Praying!

Wife and children of slain pastor found, alive
There were no signs of forced entry at the parsonage, authorities said, but Winkler’s family was gone, along with their minivan.
The other family members were found Thursday night in southern Alabama when a police officer saw their van parked along a road.
Authorities said they were alone in the van.
“We’re just so relieved that the kids were found safe and now we can focus on the next task” of solving the crime,

According to the news this morning, the wife is either a victim or a suspect. I think the cops are leaning more towards suspect. Pray for all involved.

Wife has now been charged with first degree murder.
Yup. She confessed. Very, very sad. :crying:

I think we can safely say this wouldn’t happen in Catholicism, unless the local Priest has decided to sin.

Truly shocking story. 😦

wow what a profound and biased statement. the perfect people in your church? oh wait lets not talk about all the priest who… oh never mind…guess it only happens in catholicism 😦

No, priests are not immune, but it is true they don’t have wives to shoot them.

A former priest was shot in Baltimore by a male he abused, and Geoghan (? spelling), one of the predator priests in Boston, was killed in prison.

Key word: married.

How many sinning priests were married?

Therefore, my statement was true.

What is your problem? If priests don’t marry, they’re very unlikely to get shot by their wives. That’s certainly not a statement to get all huffy and judgemental over. Try going back to bed and getting up on the other side.

to say something wouldn’t happen…is like saying “never say never”

anything is possible. and for your information, my bed is against a wall, only can get out on one side.

i don’t get from the context of that post, that the intention was to say priest dont’ have wives, thats a given. but as to seem as though the people of the catholic church are flawless, and nothing like this would ever happen.

so if i said, in reference to priest sexual abuse,
this would never happen [insert church] here, because well these ministers are married, they get sexual intercourse.

eh…anything is possible. yes married is the key word, but i don’t think intent was innocent.

I wonder if she’ll use the ever popular post-partum depression defence, or physical abuse defence. I doubt if she will ever spend much time in prison. Very sad!

It could happen to an Eastern Priest. But let’s pray that it doesn’t.

The whole story hasn’t come out yet. And this could happen to anyone, Catholic or not.

What does tha have to do with anything?
Some groups teach no matter what sin someone does they are still going to heaven. I wonder if the congregation believes this.

Sadly, the entire incident is another case of a facade covering up Christian hypocrisy. Obviously there was something very dysfunctional in this “good Christian” family. I have lived in the South for several years and this hypocrisy is so prevalent. Usually it isn’t so extreme. Look at the Methodist students who burned down all of the Baptist churches. :bigyikes:

Look at the clowns who go to military funerals with their “God Hates Fags” signs. :tsktsk:

Maybe these Protestants need the Sacrament of Penance to really see their own faults.
