Can you please help me by suggesting a book or two that may help a dear friend who is struggling with this issue mentioned in my thread title?

Here is a brief synopsis: A series of bad business deals and a faltering business have caused a friend to fall away from God. He readily admits he is now an atheiest and reads and studies many anti-christian/“new-age” philosophies. His belief system now relies on what he calls empirical science and the whole Christian thing to hiom is an invention to con and control people. I can’t get angry with him as he has really been hurt and is frustrated and confused with all that has happened. I am concerned that the road he has chosen is taking him down the wrong path to more ruin and is also straining his marriage. Part of the problem is that I believe his own church group was somewhat instrumental in blocking some land deal or something and this did not help.

When he tells me about these anti christian letters/books he always says that you need an open mind to read these like he has so I plan on using that against him by suggesting a book for him to read…seeing how he has an open mind.

So please is there a good easy read for someone who is experiencing problems in life and having trouble dealing/rationalizing with it all.
(Sorry if this is under wrong heading but I thought it was best one)

I should mention that this person was a STRONG Christian (not Catholic) and his turnabout has been extremely surprising to all but despite this he is a good person.

There is a good book called Arise From Darkness written by Father Benedict Groeschel. Its about what to do when life doesn’t make sense.

Any of Fr. Corapi’s tapes or CDs on suffering. He has QUITE a few of them, and they are helpful for any situation when you have a cross to bear.

Lift Up Your Heart by Fulton Sheen! Great book!

Our Lady of Fatima by Walsh.

in XT.

*A Path Through Suffering *by Elisabeth Elliott. She’s not Catholic (conservative Protestant), but she’s very compatible with the Catholic view of suffering
