This of course is good too. St. Anthony, being part of the body of Christ, and designated by the Church Jesus gave the Keys to Heaven and Earth to as the patron saint of those who have lost articles - is another option and not to be made light of (of course).
To the OP. Dubay is certainly right as well. And in fact, since your laptop was stolen and you want to invoke the help of one of the Lordâs deputies, maybe St. Dismas (the âgood thiefâ on the cross next to Jesus) might be the patron.
I hope your laptop is recovered or that the Lord makes it not matter.
As for St. Anthonyâs intercession - I have been amazed by it, having seen prayers to him answered in amazing ways (even when I was rather cynical about it - and somewhat in the mind of Dubay here. Who is not
wrong in invoking Christ Himself at all (of course again).
Jesus did delegate ministers and powers and miracles (of HIS) are worked through them.
And for the most part a âbelief in St. Anthonyâs powersâ is a belief in the âPowers he has been given by Jesus and acknowledged by the Churchâ (to paraphrase).
This could be done badly I suppose, or superstitiously by those of weak faith. But Jesus did say âŚ
**John 14:12 ** Amen, amen, I say to you,
whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these, because I am going to the Father.
13 And whatever you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it.
So there IS such a thing as intercession and Jesusâ followers having His powers to âdo the worksâ He did (including miracles far greater than finding a lost article - important as the article may seem). What the heck, just say the sign of the cross before, or after, your prayer to St. Anthony for intercession (or both) if you would cover all bases.
Hope you recover the laptop.

There is a nice intercessory prayer on this link that exalts the saint and acknowledges Godâs Lordship there. The holy card ad (itâs 75 cents!) gave me a smile knowing it will
drive some poor scrupulous soul to distraction possibly.
St. Anthony was my Confirmation name. As a kid I lost things a lot and Mom would invoke him to intercede (and the results were ⌠stuff found every time ⌠though not always instantly). Once when I lost my keys at a beach, someone else invoked him and made me mad. I was so above all that by high school. Frustrated, I jammed my hand into the sand as hard as I could - and the tip of the longest finger nudged the keys, about 5 inches deep in the sand.
Another time a truck of ours was stolen. We prayed, but no truck. Then a year later the police found a chopped and re-put together âtruckâ with our VIN number on it. When we went to reclaim the very different looking (improved actually) truck from the tow yard; a poor soul whoâd bought the thing and had it towed showed up looking for it. The police ruled it was ours, but my Dad looked at the poor family that weâd be (indirectly) depriving of their truck - and decided to let them have it. The fellow seemed to be from Mexico, did not speak English and apparently âboughtâ the stolen truck from someone.
So St. Anthony came through (my faith statement, not proof of course) again - with surprising results.
My father died at 5 pm Wednesday. May his generosity be remembered at his judgement and be rewarded!

Miss you so much Dad. :sad_yes:
