Since joining this forum, I have noted many couples with problems, serious problems, in their marriages. We pray for priest and religious and increase in these vocations, but marriage is also a vocation that I feel gets neglected. I don’t know if anyone has ever started a thread on all of us pulling together to pray for our marriages. I know there was once a thread for praying for our husbands, but let us all pull together to pray for our marriages. I know some miraculous conversions has happen in the praying for husbands, and maybe we can have that miracle in our marriages.

I know my marriage could use much prayer. You can’t seem to go anywhere without hearing of another divorce of someone you know. Please let us pull together hear in this forum as brothers and sisters in Christ and pray for each others marriages.

If someone did start a thread like this one and no one wants to join in, then so be it and it will die down.

God bless our marriages and keep them holy and happy for the sake of His Kingdom, our children and our children’s future.

Sounds like a lovely idea. I’m single myself but will start including prayer for married couples in with my daily prayers for religious vocations.

I’m in the process of a divorce, but I haven’t stopped praying for my marriage. I’m not praying that our marriage be saved. I’m simply praying for God’s help in following His will. But going through this divorce has made me so much more aware of the need to support married couples through our prayers and loving actions.

You can count me in for the prayers. But I’m not sure how to keep this going as a thread. What do you suggest?

Gertie (not my real name, but I like it)

count me in as well. I was surprised to see at my 20 yr. high school reunion (all girls private Catholic school) the number of classmates who were divorced more than 2-3 times w/kids.

very sad especially for the children.

I will keep everyone here in my prayers .

God bless.

Thanks for your prayers. We have a three year old son who’s doing great right now, and we’re working hard to keep it that way. It is prayer that sustains us. So thank you.

Count me in. My marriage needs all the prayers it can get. Anybody living through anything like what I am going through in my marriage needs the support and prayers of others. Trying to save a marriage when one of the partners is not happy and has lost love for their spouse is too much to bear alone.

Count me in! We’re still newlyweds technically but it’s difficult adjusting and learning to die to self…esp. for me. My husband has a great big heart and I am not quite as giving.

We always pray at the end of each decade of the Rosary -

“Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, save the souls of the unborn, all souls in purgatory, all priests and religious and all marriages and families.

please count me in too…
i am going through a divorce right now…
is there anything in particular that we would be praying???

We pray a lot for marriages. We volunteer with Retrouvaille, a program to help troubled marriages. We know from experience that it works! The devil is really attacking the family now, as a way of destroying the morals of our world and to pull people away from Christ. Marriages need all the prayer they can get! 👍

is there a particular prayer we should be praying? i have started saying the chaplet of divine mercy for his will to be done in my marriage…

i think this is a wonderful idea, i was just about to ask a few of my closest family members to pray with me for my marriage asking specifically for the intercession of these saints:

**Castora Gabrielli
Catherine of Genoa
Dorothy of Montau
Edward the Confessor
Elizabeth of Portugal
Fabiola
Gengulphus
Godelieve
Gummarus
Hedwig
Helena
Louis IX
Margaret the Barefooted
Marguerite d’Youville
Monica
Nicholas of Flue
Olaf II
Pharaildis
Philip Howard
Radegunde
Rita of Cascia
Theodore of Sykeon
Thomas More
Wilgefortis
Zedislava Berka **
these are all the patron saints that i could find for troubled marriages. i am currently separated from my wife, and i am thankful to God that divorce does not seem to be coming soon. through lots of prayer i am begining to see some change in my marriage. my wife seems to be letting me in a little bit at a time. so thank you for starting this thread. i too will pray for all of you who are in troubled marriages and you happy couples too, so that you won’t ever be in this situation.

Wow, there is so many who need prayers in this vocation. Thanks to the ones that are single in including marriages to your prayers.

I was thinking that maybe we can take particular issues and present them to the Lord and lift each other for that particular intention either weekly or every three days.

What do you all think? As far as what prayers, I personally like the Rosary or the Divine Mercy Chaplet, but I leave that to each person.

I thought we could start praying for those who are in the mist of getting a divorce or are separated. Maybe, we could lift them first up to the Lord for healing, forgiveness and mercy in their marriage. We leave what happens to the God’s will for each couple.

Can you all think of particular issues that you would like us all to pray for? Then we present these to God all together as a community. For example, my particular issue is for excessive anger to leave our marriage. Other issues that could be prayed for is for healing and forgiveness from an affair, healing from pornography, desire for holiness in the marriage and etc. You do not need to mention who has the problem, but present it as a problem for the marriage and not put blame on either person of the marriage, afterall, we are ONE when we are joined in Holy Matrimony.

If anyone has any other ideas, let us all know. So if everyone is fine with this, lets us pray for couples who are hurting from separation or divorce. If this is happening in your marriage, may the Lord Jesus heal your broken hearts. May He do what is best for both of you. God bless you all.

i have started praying the chaplet of divine mercy…i am in the midst of a divorce and it will be final in 4 1/2 months…
can you please pray for forgiveness and guidance of the holy spirit in my marriage?

Mariam I will pray for your marriage as well…

There are so many of us who have gone through or are still going through rocky times in our relationships. Some of us are still trying to heal past hurts others are tending fresh wounds.

I like to pray this and substitute the me, my, and I with the names of those I know are going through difficult times. I’ll pray that the person(s) I’m praying for would learn to cast themselves at the foot of the Cross so they could find peace…

Prayer in Time of Suffering

Behold me, my beloved Jesus, weighed down under the burden of my trials and sufferings, I cast myself at Your feet, that You may renew my strength and my courage, while I rest here in Your Presence. Permit me to lay down my cross in Your Sacred Heart, for only Your infinite goodness can sustain me; only Your love can help me bear my cross; only Your powerful hand can lighten its weight. O Divine King, Jesus, whose heart is so compassionate to the afflicted, I wish to live in You; suffer and die in You. During my life be to me my model and my support; At the hour of my death, be my hope and my refuge.
Amen

That is great that the prayers are helping you already. I will pray an extra prayer for your marriage. It is nice to put a name to the prayers, so mariam, you will have many here praying for your marriage. I am also sure that God is working of your dh.

thank you nana3… i only know now that i have the answer to my prayers and i just need to wait to find out what it is… i am not crying anymore at all which is amazing… like they say, prayer changes you and that is what prayer has done for me when i stopped focussing on what my dh was doing and started focussing on God.
God bless you for the prayers…

hi mariam, i am also praying for you and your marriage. i can relate so much to you, a few months back i too was at a point where i was crying a lot, i couldn’t eat, everything that i did took so much effort. thank God that only lasted for a few months, i began to pray differently, i began to rely on what God was wanting me to do. i has been a very painful journey for me, unfortunately i was the one who hurt my wife so much that she asked me to leave. at that point i was blaming everyone except myself, i am now in therapy and praying more than ever. i feel that God is really molding me into the kind of man that i was supposed to be. i have since expressed sincere regret for my actions.

since i have began to pray and asked religous orders to pray for me and my marriage i have seen what seemed like an impossible task turn into something that will indeed be hard, but seems doable. i have changed my life around, i am really starting to live my faith and learn more about it. i thank God for this trial, i thank my wife for not putting up with me. now i pray that she can show me some mercy and allow me to be the husband that God wants me to be.
