Hey all, I know that the various Fathers and Church writers prior to Carthage (381) varied in the lists of what was the accepted Canon of Scripture–included Athanasius who even protestants cite as “proof” against the Church’s authority in decidingthe status of authoritative scripture

So, where can I find this assorted lists, an online-reference would be especially nice

Thank You all

I don’t know of a difinitive list off hand, but this link should get you started.

God Bless,

When it comes to the Old Testament, it is my understanding that the Septuagint, which was translated and compiled several hundered years before the time of Christ, was generally accepted as authoritative and used by Jews of Jesus time, and by Christians thereafter.

Thank you Ryan and Jim: I pretty well knew about the Septuagint (OT) but it was primarily the NT Canon that some anti-catholics say was universaly agreed upon before Carthage–Ryans’s link goes a long way in blowing that assertion out of the water

In Christ
