The concern is that the psychological approach can replace our sense of responsibility and interfere with formation of a conscience.

I think this is an important thing to understand about the problems that have infiltrated our Church.

Psychology is related to unhealthy mysticism, occult, Reiki etc.

A quote from the article:

I believe that “encounter” is a “psychic experience” in which the devil seeks to counterfeit Christian sanctification. Strangely, after being opened up via encounter, I became very interested in psychic, occult phenomena.

This is from a Catholic site:
unitypublishing.com/Newsletter/PsychologyVsReligion.html

Psychology wants to destroy all AUTHORITY. “Judge not” means that we can’t judge the inner man, it does not mean we cannot judge the outer actions. Hate sin and love the sinner. But the Psycho-nut refrains from judging the outer actions and instead judges the inner motives. Psychology destroys authority because it places all ethics and morals into the hands of the individual and preaches against outside pressures.

From the US Bishop’s site:
72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:G1PILNsdeRgJ:www.usccb.org/prolife/programs/rlp/TheFamily73.pdf+%22marriage+encounter%22+psychology+attitude&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=31

Students in technical studies and the physical sciences seem more amenable to direction; liberal arts, psychology, education
students often are more skeptical of religious and ethical guidelines.

For instance, sexual morality was strongly influenced by the
concepts of sin and guilt; today, more attention is given to psychology and to arguments of responsibility for the
welfare of the other person.

I don’t agree. I saw a psychologist when I had a severe depressive episode and rather than replacing my sense of responsibility it helped me to realise that I could take responsibility for my thinking patterns in order to help myself get better. It was all bases on reasoning and there was nothing mystical at all.

Psychology is the science of behaviour and the brain. Just because you do not understand it doesn’t mean it is mystical or occult

I am sincerely happy you were helped. 🙂 I think you might misunderstand. I’m not discounting the importance of psychology as a science. I am saying that it is often used to mask our relationship with God.

It’s the abuse of psychology that has widely infiltrated our Catholic institutions that I am referring to.

I believe this is one of the roots of the problems we are having today with all the confusion and disregard for the Church teachings that result in happier families and a better society.

Oh really?
At what University did you study Psychology? How many years have you been professionally active in Psychology and Psychological research? What papers have you published? Please describe you experiements, the results and the conclusions reached based on this DATA. Or, can you provide a reference or link so we can read it for ourselves.
Thanks.

Makes no sense. That’s like saying that one must be a medical doctor to know that illegally prescribing pain killers is wrong.

People who support abortion use the tactic of putting pro-life people on the defensive instead of addressing the immorality of the issue.

I am college educated. However, any intelligent person can read and observe. I have observed and seen evidence that corroborate with the statements in these articles that using psychology as a replacement for conscience is indeed an abuse. I do admit that the title of the thread could be more specific as it seems to refer to psychology in general.

Jesus said: “By their fruits you will know them.”

I have presented articles even from the Catholic Bishop’s site. Do you dispute them? Why?
