I am confused by some of the statements made in this thread. I have to wonder (not in a mean-spirited way, so I hope this isn’t read like that; I just can’t think of any other way to phrase it) why some Roman Catholics seem to think that this council will or should have anything to do with them or their church? These are EO-internal matters, and the RCC is not a part of Eastern Orthodoxy.
Well, if you read the OP, you will see that the (Eastern Orthodox) OP introduced it as the topic of the thread. 😛

Yes, but if I said “My family is getting together to talk about some things. I wonder what?” and you said “I bet you’re going to talk about my family” I would be understandably confused. Your response doesn’t answer dhzeremi’s question at all, really.

The OP said that they couldn’t speculate as to what would be talked about, but wanted to know what other EO would do if such and such a thing were to happen. Then some Roman Catholics wrote about how the council will or should in this way or that way involve the RCC. You don’t find that a little odd?

Yes, I did kinda introduce that although it didn’t occur to me that the Pope or the Catholic Church would be involved in that Council or the decision of the Council. I was thinking IF that were the decision to be made, that then after the Pope would be approached for reunion.

I have to say that I really don’t think that’ll happen, but I do like to wonder…what if?

Seems to me a rather strange hypothetical to bring up. Rather suggestive, for lack of a better word.

It’s just a what-if.

I thought of it because I’m always hearing Catholics say this is what they want, that we are their other lung. I also hear from some in Orthodoxy that this is what they fear the leaders of Orthodoxy want from their involvement with ecumenism.

I really don’t think it would happen, but if it did things would definitely get interesting.

Wouldn’t it fulfill a prophecy of a Marian Apparition? I think of Garadabal?

Well yes, we do – just as, conversely, you presumably want Catholics to become Orthodox.

But at the same time, we respect your desire to remain Orthodox, just as you presumably respect our desire to remain Catholic.

🙂

I have to admit that I am the one who is puzzled now. The OP is the one who brought up the RCC.
IF at the Holy & Great Council, our Hierarchs reveal to us that they had, in Council, decided that all Orthodox Churches would be, from that point-on, reunited with full communion with Rome (the Catholic Church) without Rome dropping their additional teachings which became the cause (&/or continuation) of the Great Schism…
Rawb, your example is not accurate because (1) the OP posed the question at the beginning of the thread “what if the EO council talked about the RCC?” and (2) I don’t see any RC poster saying anything like, “I bet they will talk about the RCC!” especially as if it were unprompted by the OP.

Same thing, Dhzerimi. It is not the case that the OP said they wondered what the council would talk about without giving the hypothetical situation that they talk about the RCC, followed by a bunch of Frankish barbarians storming in uninvited and saying that the EO council must discuss reunion with Rome. In fact, that hypothetical was the dominating element of the (Eastern Orthodox) OP. So, no, I don’t find the posts in this thread odd in any respect. None of the posts are wildly off-topic, and if what you think is odd is the fact that Catholics posted in a thread directed to the Eastern Orthodox, I would find it exceedingly more odd that someone would expect for no Catholics to post in a thread concerning Catholicism posted on a Catholic message board.
