Question to Muslims on NOI

I would like a Muslims take on the NOI (Nation of Islam). Christians need not apply

I don’t know much about Islam. Just what I have read here and in a few sites. But from what I recall, a friend of mine Dave (Muslim, Persian) told me that they were considered blasphemous. Something about spaceships and Muhammed (sp?)

I’m not debating it. I am curious. I’m totally almost ignorant to this stuff.

NOI is to Islam as what Scientology is to Christianity…
just cause NOI has Islam in its name does not mean its Islamic… and just cause scientology has “church” of scientology does not make it a church…
there are only 2 sects of Islam… Sunni and Shiite…the rest are false or just abuse the name

Hello my friend, I think Muslim answered your question, however we believe they aren’t Muslim because they believe that a man named Elijah Muhammad was a Prophet. Islam clearly states that Muhammad is the last Prophet and no one else to come after him. Why not visit the website in my signature and learn more about Islam? It has a forum as well, you can learn alot there.

While I have not been a (practicing) Muslim all my life, and am a convert / revert as we sometimes say, I have studied Islam quite extensively over the years and seeing as though my own theological position is that of the Muslim now, I might offer my own reply. If you look at their information and their doctrines, these groups are in fact nothing more than racist or “racialist” groups (pro-black , specifically black American in this case ) . They are merely using the cloak of Islam, using terms from Islam, etc, to attempt to validate their strange beliefs. They believe for instance that the black man is the “original man”, and that Caucasians are “devils” that were “grafted” out of the flesh of the aformentioned original man on an island called Patmos by a mad black scientist named Yakub, something like 6000 or some odd years ago. They believe that a black American by the name of Clarence Poole ( known to posterity by the “Muslim name” he took, “Elijah Muhammad”) was actually a true prophet and received revelations from God (swt). A man called “W. Farad Muhammad” ( probably only part-black , at most, from the look of him) proceeded “Elijah Muhammad” and is believed by NOI , etc, to have passed the mantle of prophethood on to “Elijah”. In my opinion, while I respect the other Muslim poster’s likening of the NOI quasi-religion with Scientology, I personally would be more inclined to liken it to something known as “Christian Identity”. To me, there are far more parallels between the two, only one is a black racialist group using a legitimate religion’s mantle as a disguise, while the other is a Caucasian (specifically, “AngloSaxon”) racialist group doing the same exact thing.

Don’t listen, learn Islam and if you like it, convert, if not don’t. Don’t let anyone tell you what to do. Learn for yourself and choose. There is nothing wrong with learning is there?

Thanks for the replies. I have friends who are in the NOI. They are indeed a bit extreme when it comes to the white man. Myself being of hispanic/italian blood and dating a white girl, they would often tell me that the “white man is the devil” or not fully evolved as humans. The majority of my friends that converted to NOI did so while in prison or rehab. I never looked into the NOI, nor did I care to back then. I just always thought they were American Muslims. I see now, that that is not so. Thanks for the information. Now I know not to classify them as one in the same. I did so out of ignorance in a prior thread about how one would handle a Muslim if they knocked on my door.

The NoI is to Islam as Christian Identity is to Christendom. Neither belong to the respective sects they purport to belong to.

Stay away from them. Stay with your religion of birth or adult choice, whichever that may be, just so it is one of the legitimate religions and not just some sect or cult purporting to be of one of those religions, as the poster above me noted. In any case, being half hispanic and half italian, ironically, i think neither group might really “accept” you , so to speak. (Not that you want to be accepted by these kinds , but I’m just saying). The NOI, and 5%ers are strictly for black Americans (perhaps “half-black” they might take as well), and the other, the so called Christian Identity is sort of, well, a bigot even amongst bigots, let’s say. Which is to say that they , while they probably wouldn’t direct their hate at you as much as they would a black person or Jewish person or Muslim, but as is the case with alot of these racist / “aryan” groups they often don’t consider either hispanic or italian to be “white enough” for them. They are usually created by and actually ideally “meant” for “Nordic / Celtic / or AngloSaxon Protestant” types, you know? But, to hell with them, right ? I have thoroughly investigated on the Net and read books about all of them. I believe that quite a few of these kinds of people that are highly involved in anything ranging from these black supremacist to these white supremacist groups / cults / “religions” might well be found clinically insane by any psychiatrist. And I’m not exaggerating. Good luck with your girlfriend, and peace with the religion of your birth or your choosing.

Yes I do and if you wish I can get a revert to Islam tell you that I told him to study both religions and follow what he thinks is true. In my opinion anyone who is sincerely seeking truth will find it in Islam.

Well, I’m glad to hear that! All I hear is in the media is about death sentences for Muslims who convert to Christianity in some countries.

I agree that people should seek the truth and study all religions. Of course, I believe that one who is sincerely seeking truth will find it in the Catholic Church…as I did.

I was just inquiring about the NOI because of certain friends that I had. Their “holier than thou” and “my skin color is dominant to yours” attitude would rub me the wrong way. I was ignorant to the facts then. Still am, but… I am in the learning phase. I thought that NOI was a Muslim group, grouped them with Muslims and thought all Muslims shared those same beliefs, but I have been proved wrong. And I am glad I was, since I don’t like to speak on ignorance or prejudice (which I have in an another thread).

The fact of the matter is, they (NOI) preached a good game but never played by the rules. My friends in the NOI, they smoked massive amounts of weed, consumed massive amounts of alcohol. Yes I did too do all that stuff along with them as well, but that was before I had any Faith. They all had kids they didn’t support. They used their religion and skin color as a scapegoat whenever the circumstances called for (at their convenience). They would preach to me about the white woman (whom I was and will always be faithful to) being the devil, that “sisters should be put up on a pedestal” but they would sleep around with multiple women, basically degrading their sisters.

That to me is hypocrisy. I know every religion has their fair share of hypocrites. But the NOI people I have come across were ALL hypocrites.

That is like me preaching to kids not to use drugs then turning around and smoking an eight-ball of crack. You lead by example.

Simply put, I’m not leaving the Catholic Church. I believe God brought me back to the Catholic Church for many reasons. I’m a hard-headed individual and a few bible passages didn’t convince me or easily make me a believer of anything. I’ve been evangelized by people from all sorts of walks of life. From a Book of Mormons given to me, a Dianetics book lent to me etc… I came here on my own. I was not evangelized nor coerced into coming to the CC. So I won’t be leaving it anytime soon. I’ve found the truth that I needed in the CC.
