I understand if a man is gay, he can not be ordained, but what about men who overcome the tamtation? What about priests now who are gay?

And let’s say a priest is excommunicated, and still proforms a mass…this would not be valed right? (just curious)

The Church recently put out an article, I get it once a month with my Catholic update free e-mails that I get. It state that if a man has and continues to expunge the sinful temptation then they can be ordained after a ecclesiasticl official feels they have truly turned away.
What do you mean are now gay, priests who came out and told people after they were ordained? Well if they don’t practice, support, or anything of the nature of the homosexual lifestyle then they are fine. In a way it is not much different than a straight man giving up interest in women to be celibate for the priesthood.
If an excommunicated priest performed mass or any other religious service of his once held office, except for to the immediate dying and extreme caseshe is committing a grave sin. It is 100% not correct or exceptible.

Thanks.

Is that rule for people who “give up” adn say they are no longer a priest? Because it’s a lifetime thing so…

While the Mass would be valid, it would be illegal as well as objectively sinful on his part to celebrate it.

If he went further, and had no intention of consecrating the elements (“confecting the Eucharist”) as the Church intends it, it would be additionally invalid.

That might be true in the case of a priest who is excommunicated and becomes a minister or priest in some ecclesiastical community which does not recognize the doctrine of the Real Presence (i.e. transubstantiation etc.).

So in a specific case, we’d have to look at the specifics.

Well… the recent orders the Pope gave re: priesthood to men who do not have deep seated homosexual tendencies is just a restatement of the Church’s policy. Some bishops however have not been following the pope & the Vatican’s ruling when they did this earlier. A man who is gay and in the priesthood probably will not be excommunicated if he is faithful to the magisterium. If a priest is validly consecrated his mass would be valid but illicit whether or not he has been excommunicated.
