My understanding of Ramadan is that you are not allowed to eat until the sun sets each day.

What if you lived in Lapland, “the land of the midnight sun”, and Ramadan came during summer - when the sun doesn’t set for 61 days? Does that mean you can’t eat all Ramadan?

What if Ramadan came in winter there when the sun doesn’t rise for 61 days, could you eat whenever you want?

A good muslim would not eat that whole time. He would obey Islam. Of course such a muslim would starve. Hmmm…let’s jail Osama in Lapland when we catch him. It would be a good test to see how really Islamic he is, lol.

Good question. I heard this question being asked on an Islamic TV show, kind of “ask the scholar” type deal…I believe he said they should follow Saudia Arabia’s time schedule or the country closest to them that has a tolerable fasting time frame, but Allah knows best.

Quran 7:42

–But those who believe and work righteousness,- no burden do We place on any soul, but that which it can bear,- they will be Companions of the Garden, therein to dwell (for ever)–

only thing i agree with you.

and i think that it says if its hard for you to fast or whatever it is, you arenot obligated to. only if you are physically able to… but lets just see how many Muslims migrate to lapland then we can really worry 🙂

Actually , this question has been asked long time ago and also answered long time ago. The question was asked by the companions when the prophet PBUH told them that the Days will become longer during the Antichrist time . They then questioned what they would do with prayers, the prophet answered that they would pray same intervals that they are used to . Muslim Scholars had a consensus that this case is valid for people living in areas where the day is unusually long or short or if they are in space.

1400 years Old question.
1400 years old answer.

Peace
