What did the Blessed Mother mean when she prophesied that Francisco would have to pray many rosaries to make it to heaven?

Pope John Paul II pronounced Francisco Blessed, so that would mean he is in heaven now. Francisco prayed the rosary constantly, and died very young. Did he go to Purgatory? Did he go straight to heaven by praying enough rosaries?

Was Francisco a bad kid? How bad was he at that age?

Was Francisco a normal kid; and Jacinta and Sr Lucia really good kids?

I think I am going to be in real big trouble when I get there.

We don’t know and cannot know, but apparently Francisco knew because he followed her directive to the day he died.

We also cannot know if he went first to purgatory, but since it is the Holy Spirit who lets us know who are the blessed by the sign of the miracles done through their intercession, we can know that he is enjoying the beatific vision.

Don’t think of others in such terms. 🙂 We cannot know who is truly good and who is truly bad, only God can know that. Don’t judge Francisco or Lucia or Jacinta’s characters by what Our Lady asked of Francisco. She knew what was best for each of them, as she knows about each of us. It is every Christians duty to look to his own soul and leave judging other souls to God alone.

I think I know what epower meant though. If a little kid like Francisco had to pray many rosaries to mak it to heaven, whew! I should be on my knees 24/7.

Perhaps it was our Mother’s way of saying that a serious prayer life would be required to make it into Heaven. This is true of most anyone. But I think that there is a much more likely explination:

Remember that Jacinta, Sr Lucia and Francisco were granted an exceptionally rare gift: visions of Heaven and Hell! In addition, they were given instructions from the lips of Our Blessed Mother herself that she wished to be accepted and followed by the whole world. As years went by after the instructions were propagated, no doubt it was discouraging to see that most of the world went on, content to ignore Our Mother’s warnings. I believe that she recommended the Rosary to young Francisco as a guard against despair, which could have truly led him to reject God. Every time he prayed it, he would have been reminded of his encounter with Mary, and thus of the love and fidelity of God.

We were in Fatima recently, and spoke to the son of his half-brother Manuel (who shows people through the Marto house). I asked him the same question, and what he said was that ‘Nobody knows, Francisco was a very prayerful boy who spent hours in church praying, but nobody-not even the family found out what Our Lady referred to.’ However, after the visions, Francisco became even more prayerful and went to confession often, more often than any other boy they knew!

So, hopefully by the time he died, he had made reparation of whatever sin he commited and we have to trust in God that He forgave him.
