I’m married to a JW, did not get married in the Church. I know the renewal of vows isn’t too clear within the Catholic Church to my understanding but I was wondering, can I renew my vows in a Kingdom Hall? Kind of rebuilding the trust in my marriage and may want to renew vows in her place of religious services, would this be any kind of sin? Or is this ok? Can I have a JW renew our vows in a park or something else then?

Yes talk to a priest. But I’m confused. You want to know if the Church says it’s ok for you to renew something the Church does not think is ok. In a place that is hostile to your faith? Hmmmm. Were you given a dispensation to marry outside of the Church the first time?

I was not, I know the Church does not approve and maybe sometime in the future my wife will agree to go to the Church and get approval for our marriage, but for now I’m trying to repair our marriage and we’ve talked about renewing our vows years ago. I think me asking her to renew or re-commit our vows in her place of worship would show a lot whether she agrees to or not. Yes I know they are against the Catholic faith but this is who I married and her friends from the hall are very nice to me. By the way I did speak to someone at the church here, they also said it was ok and I told them what I told you. Thank you for your response as well.

The Church wouldn’t see any vows at this point as a renewal — you would be getting married. If you want to seek a dispensation to marry outside the Church, you should ask your pastor about that.

The graces that come from God to help us in marriage cannot flow to you because you choose not to invite God to your wedding in the first place. Without the Sacraments, you are trying to do it all on your own. 😦

Please, speak to your pastor about regularizing your marriage, making things right with God.
