It looks legit to me. In the Litany of Mary, it lists all the names by which she has been called. Morning Star is one of them. The Church does pray and accept this litany.

I comes from here (beautiful when sung in Latin)

i happen to be a memeber of the confraternity of the holy rosary.
it is legit.

I’m also a confraternity member 👋

There’s a song I used to hear in church a lot as a young’un called ‘Gentle Woman’. It’s about Mary and it refers to her as Morning Star. And the Catholic high school I went to was called ‘St Mary Star of the Sea’ - slightly different but in the same vein.

Indeed ❤️

Well well, looks like all the Rosary Confraternists are coming out of the woodwork … good to see 😃

Isn’t Jesus the Morning Star though? I can see Mary being a star, guiding us to Christ, but her being the Morning Star seems to me to be a little overbearing.

The morning star is seen before sunrise. Mary’s “yes” preceeds the coming of Jesus, the son of God, and the Sun of redemption that takes away our darkness.

It seems more like John the Baptist would be the morningstar to me.
Then whyyyy is Christ called “Morning Star”?

Really, it is great that you are all members, and maybe I’ll join too once I learn what exactly it is you’re a member of, and why certain things are the way they are.

yeah, i wasn’t saying that Christ is not the morning star–but when it comes to whether one ought to see Mary as the morning star, i just meant that if anything, if the morningstar isn’t Christ, then it would make sense that it would have been John.

I knew what you were implying. No worries.

This line from the litany (where it refers to the Blessed Virgin as the “Morning Star”) seems to do both Mary and Jesus a disservice. It is akin to calling Mary the Rose of Sharon, etc.

I think the explanation of it is fine - and I have no problems with Rose of Sharon either - pays respect to the Jewish roots of Christianity like ‘tower of David’.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard Christ referred to as ‘Morning Star’ - could someone point me to a reference for this?

Revelation 22:16:
I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
Song of Solomon 2:1:
I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys.

The Rosary Center is as orthodox and reliable as it comes. You can learn TONS about Catholic teaching by reading the articles in their newsletter, which they archive here:

One of the keys of understanding and appreciating Catholic devotion, is to dispel yourself of the rock-ribbed fundamentalist attitude of “either/or.” In this case, unless a title is clearly exclusive (such as “Lord” for Jesus), there’s no reason why it can’t be applied to someone else. Just because Jesus is called “the Morning Star” doesn’t mean that Mary can’t be called “the Morning Star” as well. Just because we refer to “Smokey** the ** Bear” doesn’t mean there can’t be anymore bears running around out there. Jesus could not be so petty that he would mind sharing a term of endearment with his own Mother.
