An unprecedented event took place at the conference on youth policy of the members of the Council of Europe. The declaration on the rights of the youth was not signed. It happened so because Russia refused to sign the document, as members of European delegations suddenly set forth a new paragraph, trying to make it the key one in the whole declaration. The paragraph was about the rights of homosexual individuals. The Europeans took a strong position and refused to compromise. For the first time in the history of the conference, the declaration was not approved…

Way to go, Russia.👍

Wouldn’t it be great if Russia re-evangelized Europe?

No. My family in Poland are happy with their Catholic faith… For many reasons, they would never convert to Russian Orthodoxy.

Praise God for Russia, I wonder if the Immaculate Heart of Mary played a role in this, wasn’t Russia consecrated to her heart after all?

I’m surprised anyone here would support Russia in this. Their so called “homosexual propaganda” laws are just a pretext for its semi-facist government to restrict the right of its people to peacefully assemble. They don’t even define the term in that law and all reports are that arrests made under it have been entirely arbitrary and without any recognizable merit. I certainly don’t think its purpose is in line with Catholic teaching.

What if Russia is morally opposed to this though, which it seems that they are? Do you not support conscience rights? Should governments not have the right to make laws based upon their collective moral views so long as they are just?

I don’t support State sanctioned discrimination especially when it involves a nation led by a former KGB official with clear ulterior motives for such vague laws. We already know its being used to arbitrarily detain Russian citizens. Gay persons should not be made to fear being snatched by the gestapo just for going outside.

How is a prohibition on peaceful assembly a just law?

You fail to realize that after so many years as an atheistic secularist country, their government, now that it is free is not going to legitimize something that is considered an abomination that is contrary to the sensitivities of the Russian people. Yes, there are homosexuals in Russia, but they are deep in the closet, just as they were in the US until the 1960’s. They may not be tolerated by Russian Society, but at least they are no longer sent to gulags as they were under the communists. Yes, they are jailed, but not because they are gay. The gays that are jailed in Russia are those who make public specticals of themselves, like publicly demonstrating for so-called gay rights, which in reality doesn’t exist over there or over here. These “rights” exist only in the minds of publicists, liberal politicians and judges who over reach their authority and legislate from the bench. I defy anyone to show me where gay rights exist in any State Constitution or the US Constitution. It is something trumped up, much like the so-called right to privacy.
Like it or not, in the USA gays are tolerated, not accepted by society. If there were to be a national referendum on the subject of “gay rights”, the gay community would lose big time-just as they did with proposition 8 in California.

I’m not entirely sure what that is supposed to be but, by all accounts, the arrests have been arbitrary.

Yes, unfortunately we live in a time in which people think it appropriate to vote on which civil rights their neighbor can exercise. Right now its the homosexual community. Who do you think will be next?

I agree that gay persons should be made to fear the gestapo but the gestapo no longer exists, right? Besides that, I do not feel that Russia hates LGBTs. I feel that they simply do not wish to permit immoral behavior and they have every right to make laws based upon the nation’s collective morality so long as the collective morality is just.

LGBTs should be made to feel safe and all of that but deviant behavior should not be permitted in my own personal opinion. It seems to me that the collective morality of Russia is largely Eastern Orthodox and I personally see nothing wrong with that. I really do not think that LGBT Russians are in any real danger.

I see nothing wrong with the collective morality of the Russians being imposed upon everyone by law. I think that Russia is largely Eastern Orthodox and if they want their laws to be based upon Eastern Orthodox morality then I see nothing wrong with that. The Eastern Orthodox have only slightly less of the Truth than Catholics do.

I find myself becoming increasingly pro-Russian and anti-Western. And when I say anti-Western, I’m referring to the West as we know it now.

Exactly! The only so called gay rights that LGBTs have are rights that were given to everyone by God.

I agree. I am finding myself that way as well. The Russians seem to have much more moral laws that we do here in the West. The Russians are holding on to True morality while our nation seems to be embracing leftist and immoral laws.

If it quacks like a duck…

Makes no difference to me how they “feel.” I don’t care for a lot of things but I don’t believe in keeping everyone under my boot just because I don’t like what they’re doing or saying or who they are. And since when is peaceful assembly considered immoral behavior? And when will people learn that you can’t legislate faith?

Could it be that Russia saw the research which showed that homosexuals can be created by early sexual contact by a member of the same gender? Could it be that they don’t want to be weakened by the same Caligula phenomenon that ended the Roman empire?
