I’m afraid there aren’t any Sacred Traditions that can be listed. There is only Sacred Tradition, which is the whole of the teaching of the Church found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The Bible is a part of that Sacred Tradition, as well, since it came from it and resides within it.

Della thanks for the reply. As St. Paul told the Thessalonians to hold fast to traditions, both oral and written, so it is that Sacred Tradition is those teachings that are taught by the Church , whether in the Holy Bible explicitly or implicitly stated. Would the use of votive candles, making the sign of The Cross, and the liturgical format of the Mass be Sacred Tradition?

Hello G of G, welcome!

Within the Church we have Sacred Tradition, which is really comprised of two parts. One is Tradition, and the other is tradition. The little “t” tradition involves the votive candles, the sign of the cross, etc. Those are all “things that we Catholics do,” but they’re not essential to our faith life. They help us, but they can change. The big “T” Traditions include things like the canon of Sacred Scripture, the belief in the Real Presence, and the Assumption of the BVM. These are necessary things for us to believe and remain Catholics in good faith. So we have two components to the Sacred Tradition, and only some are binding on us (the big “T” ones).

Hope that helps!
