If by “secularism” you mean a system of government where no one religion oppresses any other religion, then secularism is both good and a necessity.

Multiculturalism is a reality. It is also good, since it opens peoples’ minds to different ways of living and being.

The Church is universal and crosses all ethnicities and borders. So, multiculturalism is part of the reality of the Church. There are Catholics in every country in the world and we are all united by a common faith.

Catholics are connected by faith, I don’t think you’re fully getting the idea of Catholicism, and to be honest, Catholics in your neighborhood are probably not to eager to show their faith to Muslims out of fear of some horrific punishment.

I am an American woman and a Catholic. My father’s family came over from Poland. When I was young, even though I was born and raised in the US, I was taught Polish as my first language. My father was a very educated man and very proud. He absolutely forbid his daughters to date outside our faith. But we couldn’t even talk to people of other races. That is a bigot and a racist. I loved my father but he totally saw things through the way he was brought up. He refused to entertain the idea that his daughters could befriend a Baptist or even worse, a hispanic or black person. What a shame! I have many friends of many colors and creeds. They enrich my life and hopefully I do the same for them. In America today it is pretty much hard not to associate with other groups of people. For the most part, Americans are very individualistic. There are bad people in every race and every creed. By the same token, there are good people from every walk of life too. Catholics are as diverse. In my parish for example, we have Caucasions, African Americans, Hispanics, Japanese, Indonesians, etc. and I live in a very small town! In the same respect, we have rich folks, poor people, and every income inbetween. We are different in so many ways, but in some respects, we are very alike; we are Catholics, we believe in the same things for the most part. We work together, our children go to school together, we worship together. Racism and bigotry has no place in our churches. While it should not have a place in our hearts, unfortunately it does at times. We are not perfect, we are human. In the US a generation ago there was alot more racism and bigotry than there is now IMHO this is because we have to get along for work, school, worship, etc. If I believed everything I was taught as a child by my father about these people that are different than me, I would not have the friends I love so dearly. Please do not judge Catholics by a single family or a few families that you see around you. We are of every nation and race, we are so totally universal that we can’t be described in any way shape or form. Someday, we hope and pray to be know by our hearts, that all may see a shining example of what we can be, until then…there is no stereotypical Christian or Catholic.

Apology not necessary, we are all human. I am sorry you have bad examples of christians where you are at. Truly, I am interested in hearing about your experience with christians in Pakistan. I only know one Pakistani Christian, and he is a very nice man.
