Sex in marriage?

I thought that, once inside marriage, the only time a man and a women can have sex, is when there open to the possibility of a child. But today i have started to doubt, and im arguing with my self about it, because some people love eachother and have casual sex inside marriage. I fear that its deception, please give me some good old fashion correction!

There’s nothing wrong with sex in marriage. You just have too be open to conception, it doesn’t have to be your only purpose.

What if you dont want children at this present moment( because your poor and unable surpport a child), but you want to have sexual relations with your wife, what then?

The Catholic Church believes that a married couple cannot do anything to prevent the conception of a child, ie, no birth control. However, the Catholic Church does not believe that Catholics can only have sex for the purposes of having a child. They can have sex for other reasons, such as closeness, celebration, etc. But they cannot do anything to prevent the conception of a child.

At least, that’s my understanding. If I’m wrong, someone will post and correct me.

You abstain from sex during the woman’s fertile phase of her cycle, and have sex when she is not fertile.

Your wife has natural periods of infertility during her menstrual cycle. If I you have a good reason for not having children right now, simply limit when you have sexual relations with your wife to those times when she is naturally infertile. In the case where you need to space your children, or avoid conception for a time due to a just reason then you can use the knowledge of the woman’s cycle-- called Natural Family Planning-- to abstain during the fertile time and have sex during the infertile time of the month.

My understanding is that we should be open to life with every act of intercourse, but we were not created in a way that every act would be physically fertile. Therefore, we can use NFP if we have serious reasons to post-pone a pregnancy for the time being, or indefinately as the case may be. (I don’t know of a “list” of serious reasons.)
God gave us intellect. We can use it in cooporation with how we were designed and still reap the benefits of marital union even when haveing relations only on infertile days. It’s not just for babies, but also for bonding. Thank God, otherwise after menopause it would be pointless!?!?
Keeping in mind that NFP is not 100%, it is close, but not “perfect” so to speak. Therefore, the couple should be open to the possibility that God can create human life whenever He feels is best for us. Even if we didn’t think it was a time of fertility.

I believe the marital union is a little glimpse into Heaven. So, go find your spouse and enjoy a little Heavenly bliss!
