I’m a revert/convert (actually, I’m really not sure which one I am…but that’s another post) and am new to most all things Catholic. I just started attending the CC in November and am still at a loss on a lot of the customs. When I started attending the CC I read everything I could get my hands on to learn all about the beliefs…but things like putting your fist to your heart during certain parts of the mass etc seem to be more “customs” than dogma…and that’s where I’m needing help.
ANYWAY, everything I’ve ever read says that you pray the Sorrowful Mysteries on Tuesdays and Fridays except during Lent when it becomes Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Now, I just read in the back of the St. Joseph’s Sunday Missal that the Sorrowful Mysteries are prayed EVERY day from Ash Wednesday thru Good Friday. So which is it???
(I do know that the Mystery “Days” are more like suggestions and that you don’t HAVE to pray these on this day or those on that day…but I want to know what is the traditional way that most Cradle Catholics do this.)
BTW, my husband is a Cradle Catholic, 42 years of age, and said that he was never taught to pray the Mysteries during the Rosary! And he grew up VERY involved in the church…I find that very strange!
So, what’s the “traditional” way that YOU learned to do this???
Thanks!!!

I wouldn’t get too wrapped up in this, rather just remember that any rosary said with the heart is a good rosary. If you are greatly troubled though might I suggest saying at least the joyful (15 min), the sorrowful (15 min) and the Glorious (15 min) each day. Because hey what is 45 minutes out of a 24 hour day anyway. 🙂

what you might have read is the traditional way of saying the rosary, joyful mysteries Mon & Thurs, and Sundays of Advent and Christmas season, Sorrowful on Tues & Fri. and Sundays of Lent, Glorious on Wed & Sat. and Sundays of Easter and Ordinary time. Suggestions for the new Luminous mysteries include saying them on Thursday, or praying them “in order” Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful, Glorious.

since I walk for 45-60 minutes a day that is a whole rosary so I just go “in order.” When praying in a group it is best if everyone agrees so we are all on the same page. some people pray Sorrowful mysteries for a wake, but we prefer the Glorious.
