Does anyone go to that website spiritdaily.com? What do you think of it? They always seem to be reporting about the end of the world/ signs of the times. They have some links that are not very Catholic sometimes, so should a good Catholic go to that site?

I read Spirit Daily as do a number of others here. It does have an end times flavour, but there are very good articles posted there, often with links to Zenit, and other good sources of Catholic news. The secular articles are there to keep you informed of what the secular world is doing in contradiction with the Catholic world, and often have prayer requests posted with them. So, yeah, it’s ok to go there. They are good Catholics, IMO. I don’t pay much attention to the Medjugorie focus, though. Michael Brown, the author of the website is a Medjugorie and end times writer, but you can skip that stuff, and still get a lot out of his website.

There are times when Spirit Daily could easily classify as Catholic weird news. You have to take it with a grain of blessed salt. I enjoy reading the stories but I use caution. I like many of the links but not all of them.

Spirit Daily has a mix of credible and not so credible sources.

The danger for some folks is that they tend to believe that if a site has SOME credible resources on it, then ALL of it is credible.

If I am investigating a religious claim or apparition, my sources rate in the following sequence and are used for the following purposes:
  1. Catholic Catechism - to obtain offical Church teaching on the founditional issues related to the investigation;
  2. Vatican 2 documents and respective Cannon Law - as above;
  3. Offical documents of the Local Ordinary and the Vatican - to obtain the Church’s offical position;
  4. Press reports from L’OSSERVATORE ROMANO and other credible news agencies, (no tabloids or subjectively orientated news agencies at this stage) - provides an attempted unbiased report on the issues present in the story;
  5. The publicity machine promoting the claim or apparition - Unfortunately, most supporters of a claim or apparition use this source as their first and last source of information. I use this source to achieve an understanding of the opposing point of view and balance this off against sources: 1,2,3, & 4
  6. The theologians - I look at both pro and anti theologians and the outcomes of these investigiations usually refers me back to sources 3, 4 & 5.
I would use Spirit Daily as a source, (and definately not the only source) to direct me to sources 5 & 6.
