People close to me put a lot of faith into what Sylvia Browne teaches. Saying that if she does good things like help police find missing persons, how can she be all that bad. I've visited her web site, [sylvia.org/home/index.cfm](http://www.sylvia.org/home/index.cfm), and noticed that although she uses the word Christian, "Gnostic Christian" to be precise, her teachings are anything but. She is nothing but another new age guru who uses the word "Christian" to deceive.
Therefore, my take is that Satan can cause people to even do good (on surface) if it will ultimately cause them to lead others away from Jesus and his Church.

Has anyone else had experience with those who have put their faith in Sylvia Browne, other psychics, gnostics, or the new age movement and some good arguments to win them back for our lord?

God bless

Sylvia Brown has done alot to implant unchristian junk into the brains of many in society. Aside from being disgusing (has anyone ever noticed how she chews her long thumbnail, and picks her ear? ewww) she speaks rather “matter of factly” about reincarnation, communicating with the dead, talks about following your “spirit guides,” and mixes it all up with doctrine about angels and God. I have watched it a few times so I would be able to talk a loved on out of believing it.

Some people fall away from sound doctrine and choose to believe this junk they are drawn to. The Devil is a slick fella. It is peddled as harmless and helpful. It is peddled as Christian -safe. (notice gnostic is not Christian, it was condemned from the beginning of the Church.)
It would be prudent to Protect ourselves and avoid this stuff, put your faith in God. Sure, Sylvia Brown may really be psychic and leads police to solve crimes, but I would rather sacrifice that in order to obey God. Our Father wants us to avoid this sort of practice for a reason, and He is in the business of saving souls, not solving crimes. At the end my life I hope to be with the One true God, not entertained by parlor tricks in hell. ( This may sound harsh but, I find the acceptance of this movement disturbing)

Has anyone ever seen the “Pet Psychic” on Animal Planet? What on God’s green Earth???

Not only her, but I understand the popular TV medium, John Edwards, is also a big no-no.

He often tells his audience about his Christian faith, does readings where he talks about rosaries, heaven, God etc. While this may sound like it is coming from a Godly place, the devil can pretend to be an Angel of Light.

Sylvia Brown is a work in progress! I have seen her over the years and have watched her suck people into her deceit. A friend of mine had personal experience with her…beware the wolf in sheep’s* clothings! We should pray for her and all the ‘mediums’ out there who truly believe what they say…or do they???

*Except that I have never seen a sheep with long fingernails.

Ok, I was reading Novus Spiritus on the Sylvia Brown link. She claims her spirit guide “Francine” told her about the female god… She claims there is a mother and father god and when Sylvia refers to “God” she says to remember she really means “gods” She claims the Bible is wrong and tells readers to pray to the female god etc. The really sad thing is that she used to be Catholic. Sure, I believe that God gives people psychic abilities but the problem here is that the fruit of her psychic gift is that of apostacy and blasphemy. A person can use any gift for the Glory of God, or as a plaything for Satan. I would make sure to point this out to the people close to you who are buying into this. To follow Sylvia Brown’s teachings they must give up Chrisitanity as we know it, including the Bible, and worship multiple gods. They must believe that there is no hell or satan. She says she is on a mission for God, to teach people the truth. I think she uses the word “God” to fool people into thinking it is “Christian friendly” She should just say “gods” but, by deceit she can hook more well-meaning people into her twisted dogma. I am actually even more concerned about the people being led astray after looking at her website. This is a good topic for discussion, thank you for pointing it out!

One of the nasty parts of things like channeling, and other “new age” spiritual practices is that there really IS a spiritual world, and a spiritual reality, and all parts of them are not benevolent. Although it is not good to dwell on to the point of distraction, neither is it good to forget that the enemy, and his minions, are fallen angels. These are not beings we should allow to have their way with us.

As for the “theology” on her web page, it reminds me of Neibuhr’s take on liberal theology: “A God without wrath brought men without sin into a kingdom without judgment through the ministrations of a Christ without a cross.”

Bad stuff, all around.

Blessings,

Gerry

I just thought I would post this excerpt from Sylvia Brown’s website:
“Hence, if you follow the teachings of Christ then the doors of heaven (the eternal Home) open. Do remember however, Novus feels that Christ’s teachings are simply the two statements above. We do not hold that Christ was God, nor that he died for our “sins,” nor that he rose from the dead.”
Anyone who thinks Sylvia Brown is compatable with Christianity needs to know this!

I agree that John Edwards is also a big “no no” I used to watch that show trying to figure out if he is for real or if he uses some kind of trick to figure all that stuff out. Whatever he does, he definitely throws in alot of “Christianity” mixed with very unchristian practices and beliefs. I recently heard that before the show people ask questions and then secretly relay them back to him, either way, whether it is a real psychic ability or not, the fruits result in pointing viewers away from the Truth in solid doctrine.

:rotfl: those things are talons! I guess they might come in handy when climbing the “mountain of self,” as she referrs to on her website!

Anyone ever skim thru these charlatans books at the book store…or listen to what they beleive about the spirit world?

NONE OF THEM can even be in agreement with the other on what is on the “other side” 😛

Sylvia Brown: I seen her on a now defunct (thank God) episode of “The Other Half”…hosted by simpletons…Danny Bonaduce, Mario Lopez and Dick Clark. She was attempting a “Cold Reading” and couldnt nail ANYTHING! She got so upset…she told the audience member they werent “concentrating enough” and if they would, they would “understand” she (Sylvia) was “on the money” (I dont know if she is a COMBO…meaning…skilled cold reader AND open to occultic forces or not)

John Edwards: Skilled Cold reader COMBO…some of his stuff is eerie…mostly off the mark

James Van Der Pragh: In touch with the demonic…he calls his entities “sweet spirits”… and just looking at his affected appearance, mannerisims and vocal inflections…I’d bet money he is homosexual as well.

Edgar Cayce…Carlos Casteneda…Ray Stanford…ALL in touch with Occultic Forces…Stanford…or Sanford…even did a book claiming to Channel the Blessed Virgin and reveal Fatima Secrets…btw…thanks Ray…THAT book was the second on my journey BACK into the Church and the light of Christ!..and had the reverse effect intended by the author…God seen my sincere heart and instead of allowing me to be led FURTHER ASTRAY… he allowed it to make me aware of New Agers mixing the Faith… beware.

Irene Hughes or Jeanee Dixon (cant recall which) even admitted that when she was a little girl a serpent appeared to her and entered into her and gave her all the knowledge she had! And even admitting this… she refused to beleive it was the Devil…those gifts (without the church to discern) makes a soul prideful unto death…

One Channeller…I think her first name is Joyce…even has words of praise at the beginning of her book by: Larry King and Regis Philbin! …and Philbin is a Catholic aint he?

Bottom line…they’re ALL dangerous…on fraud levels as well as if they are operating on Spiritist ones

Not ONE “channeller…Psychic” etc…has EVER espoused a true message of Jesus Christ…why? the Bibles words CONVICT (ALL) evildoers of this Medium jazz…in the Old AND New Testaments.

I have noticed a trend, it seems Satan is trying to convince us that there is no Hell or sin, and that the only evil is within ourselves. I have noticed this in the acceptance of gnosticim, Wicca and other Neo Pagan religions. I saw the same mantra in the Sylvia Brown website. There is more in common with these various “religions” than many of us realize and they are in the popular media, infecting minds with the ideas they espouse. I am beginning to realize what a problem this “new age” trend is.

Good morning!
I’m new here and don’t mean to step on toes, but doesn’t it say in Genesis 1 that: "Then God said, “Let **us **make man in **our **own image”. How would you interpret it please?

The plural in the Bible does not refer to multiple gods, rather it denotes the greatness of God. Or another explanation could be that it could refer to the Holy Trinity. It could also be a matter of translation from Hebrew. Ancient languages have certain rules that might not be translatable into English.

It could never have referred to multiple gods. Notice the beginning of the Ten Commandments: I AM LORD THY GOD and you shall not have any other gods before me.

As for Sylvia Browne, I usually do not watch this kind of junk. But I happen to catch her on Montel Williams Show at the end of 1999, predicting what will happen in the year 2000. Someone got up and ask what would happen to the Pope. She wrinkled her face into her “all-knowing” grin, and said that he would die because “you know, he is really old”.

How is that for accurate?

You know I hate to admit it but I’ve always been reeaaallll curious about what that woman would say about our pets. 😃

Thank you so much for you reply. I’m doing alot of studying right now and having other peoples point of views is extremely helpful. I have read that there were many people/prophet/disciples (not sure of the correct title), that wrote the gospels. Whether it be from simply writing down Christs teachings or through spiritual means (angels/spirits/god coming to particular individuals). I have read that the Emperor Constantine was originally pagan, but because of social/political pressures, he converted to Christianity. His empire was in religious turmoil. He and higher arche of the Christian Church decided that they needed to unify and make things simple for the average man/woman to understand. They all got together (in Nicene) and decided which gospels they would include in the bible and which they would leave out. I wonder, how could they have done this? How did they know which gospels were the correct ones? They have found many new writings in the Dead Sea Scrolls…how do we know that those should not have included in the bible? Are these scroll gospels considered incorrect?

hi. again. Another question please. I think that Sylvia Brown considers herself gnostic. Gnostic meaning:??(gnosis - sacred truth).
I have read Ms. Brown’s books, trying to keep an open mind. Although there are certain aspects that seem a bit far-fetched, she basically seems to teach on the basis of being kind to one another, learning, and hope. Any comments please/

Well Confucians teach the silver rule (do unto others) and Buddhhists also encourage kindness ) what is the point of your question precisely? If Ms. Browne claims to be a gnostic, then I would guess that she is.

And gnosis is defined as: esoteric knowledge of spiritual truth held by the ancient Gnostics to be essential to salvation
