They have to deny that Jesus even was a Jew. The one thing I remember one saying was that Jesus was the son of a Roman. Oh, well, why not go all the way, then and convert to Mithraism; that would get them even farther from Judaism.

I would understand it better if they simply asserted that Jesus never existed. To accept the legitimacy of the Bible and yet deny that Jesus was a Jew is ridiculous. That would be like saying yes, Abraham Lincoln was an American President but no he wasn’t involved in a civil war of any kind, he was never a member of the House of Representatives and he wasn’t assassinated.
