The Chicago Deacons have been hit with a double whammy this Christmas season. One of our longtime deacons of a northwest side parish, lost his wife of 50 years. Eleanore was struck and killed by an automobile crossing a busy street. She was Christmas shopping at the time. Eleanore had her own busy ministry at their home parish for all of their married life. She was the parish coordinator for liturgy, wedding prep, bereavement ministry, etc. Both she and her husband, Deacon Gene were a mentor couple for deacon candidates & their wives for over 10 years too. They guided and continue to set an example for all deacon couples. Please keep them and their family in your prayers…the suddenness & violence of her death is very difficult, especially during the Christmas season.
Also, one of the deacons who was mentored by Eleanore and Gene, died suddenly last night as well. Deacon George aka Jerry was a very active deacon at a northwest side parish in Chicago as well. His wife, Bernie and Jerry themselves had become a mentor couple for deacon candidates and their wives. We all your need your prayers.Jerry was my classmate. Eleanore was my mentor.God bless you and may the peace of the God-child be with you!
