I’m not sure that i pray properly. When i pray i just say what is on my mind, and then is say “in the name of the father then son and the holy spirit”.

What is really bugging me is, is it okay to pray to just one of the trinity, i.e, i might prey to jesus sometimes, other times i prey to the father, but i have never prayed to the holy spirit.

I get scared sometimes that i have sinned, so i just say, " in the name of the father, the son, and the holy spirit.

Please ease my mind.

Sounds perfect - saying what’s ‘on your mind’ is THE essential aspect of prayer - formal prayers are most often for when we can’t find our own words easily, or when we pray as a community.

As for praying to one or other member of the Trinity - well in Mass they do that as well don’t they? I don’t think the Three-in-One members of the Trinity get jealous of who you address your prayers to, otherwise they wouldn’t stand for us praying to Mary or the Saints either.

So to sum up - keep on doin’ watcha doin’

God bless :gopray2:

That makes sense. I was thinking of  God as if he was a sinful human. :tsktsk: Thats where im going wrong! 🙂

I agree with what Lily has said, you’re not doing anything wrong with the way you pray. Prayer is intensely personal, and there is no one correct way to pray.

I would also remind you, free, that although God is three, God is also one. As Lily said, one Person of the Trinity will not get “jealous” because you pray to another Person. In some way, I’m sure they all hear your prayer (don’t ask me to explain any further, for it is a mystery - on my poor mind is incapable of comprehending.

On a more personal note, I tend to address different Persons of the Trinity for different concerns I may have, different requests, or different reasons to be thankful. You stated that you’ve never prayed to the Holy Spirit. Perhaps (and it’s just a suggestion), you might want to get to know Him a little better, and find out what “the Sanctifier” can do in your life through prayer. If you’re interested, here’s a link to some well-known prayers to the Holy Spirit that might give you more insight:

I am so blessed that I found this thread. I am a Catholic convert and I often felt confused about prayers, too.

You all have eased my mind and worries. God bless each of you for being so kind to those of us who want to understand our new faith more fully.

I love being a Catholic ❤️

That’s why we start our prayer “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit”, because we affirm that whenever we pray, we address God in His wholeness. Hopefully that eases your mind.

You should pray to the Holy Spirit when you are reading the bible (you all are reading the bible, aren’t you?:)) to help you understand it.

Other prayers to the Holy Spirit:

*** Prayer to the Holy Spirit***
Code:
*******Breathe into me Holy Spirit, that all my thoughts may be holy. Move in me, Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy. Attract my heart,******Holy Spirit, that I may love only what is holy. Strengthen me, Holy Spirit, that I may defend all that is holy. Protect me, Holy Spirit, that I always may be holy.***
Come, Holy Spirit
Code:
*******Come, O Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit, and they shall be created. And you shall renew the face of the earth.***
Let us pray
Code:
*******O God, who has taught the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant that by the gift of the same Spirit we may be always truly wise and ever rejoice in his consolation, through Christ our Lord. Amen.***
