I am fairly new to the faith and I am learning a great deal. All my life I have heard that
“Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.”
meant you shouldn’t use profanity like Godd***** or similar. I was reading a book on a completely unrelated topic (I thought) and stumbled across an interpetation that said something to the effect that what is meant by this commandment is that we should not advance anything destructive or hurtful in the name of God. Is this the correct interpetation, the writer I was reading was not a Catholic.
