They are SILL lost!

Well, they killed my last thread. Bummer. Here is the long and the short of it. I am all for intelligent dialogue as well, but I am not in favor of anyone posting information about Catholics that is not correct. Thus, when I entered the Baptist Board and found that they were running a post called “Catholic…Religion or Cult” I was compelled to find out more. The more that I read about it, the more I understood that it was all lies. And lies must be dealt with. Thus, I posted here in the hope of generating discussion about people who do not know what they are talking about, yet go to great lengths to sound like they do. We call them bigots. You can too. If you have ever read a post about Catholics that was anti-Catholic and founded in BS, I want to hear about it here. I love you all, and it is time to talk about this.
 
Since the Baptist Board does not discriminate against Catholics (they just don’t allow us to join) we cannot go there without lying. I guess the lies will just have to stay there until something changes. Pray for them.
 
I agree. It’s almost impossible to correct some of these people, even when they’re totally incorrect on basic things. I think many Baptists and protestants secretly know that their churches are wrong, but it’s too fearful for them to admit it. So they fight radically against Catholicism and they sometimes will say the most ridiculous things. Occasionally you can find a person who is open to the truth. That’s why we can’t get upset or lose our patience and charity, no matter how harsh the attacks will get.
 
I’m truly agree to your statement “CAN’T GET UPSET/PATIENCE”, we must learn to forgive others just like Jesus does. I’m a protestant, but i do not share any negative thoughts about other pple believes and practises. Because we want others to see Christ in us. Well i guess i have been living in a country that empahsizes in multi cultural and religion practises, thus i do not face such strong discontentment within ourselves. So i hope i could share this experience to everyone…We should live in humanity, this is what our god wanted us to be!!! Amen
 
The question is…when do we really start to get upset over this? Bottom line is that people that hate us will do anything that they can to make us look bad. What are we going to do to stop this? Someone has to call them on this.
 
Time to talk about this?? Honey you must be BRAND spankin’ new to the Catholic apologetics thing!! 😃 Every informed Catholic on this board has run into this type of thing too many times to count.

The first time I encountered it I was REALLY mad, just like you are. But over the years the Lord has really used situations like that to teach me compassion in the face of hate. Glory to God!! Now I just feel sad for them, mainly because I really believe that they are sincere in what they believe. They really, truly are convinced that what they are saying is making God happy and that he will tell them “well done good and faithful servant” because they are speaking the “truth” about the “whore”.

Just pray for them. Some of them will soften and some of them won’t. But all of them will find out the truth one day and I hope that all Catholics will joyfully embrace them and that no Catholic will smugly smile and say “see? toldja so!”. 🙂

It’s been my experience with Baptist boards that disallowing Catholics to join in the conversation while having boards which actively bash their beliefs is quite a common thing.

Boy, ya know what? I think they believe they are right every bit as much as we do. I really do.

Sadie, this has been going on a long time. They have been called on it bajillions of times. There is nothing that we can do stop it but pray and speak the truth when you have a chance. Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever argue with them. They “know” they are right, just like you do. They “know” you are wrong just like you know they are wrong. If you put yourself in their shoes you’ll find that they are just an angry with you as you are with them for exactly the same reason. They sincerely believe Catholicism is a lie, just like you sincerely believe that what they’re saying about it is a lie.

Be gentle, be kind, be loving, be Jesus to them. No one WANTS to be proven wrong so arguing will never settle it.

Isn’t we trying to let others see Christ in us? So what does Jesus have in him which we human don’t have? The answer is there for us to search. After which we will understand the meaning and realize we are wasting our time with some unproductive way to show our love to him

As a previous Baptist I can say alot of Baptist are very wrong. As a Bible believing Chrisitian I can also see were Methodist, Presbyterian, Catholics, Or just plain prodestants and myself are wrong. There is alot I dont understand about the Catholic faith. The one thing I will never ever accept no matter how red in face you guys get is. Praying to Mary the Mother of Jesus. That to me is a slap in the face of scripture. No were in the bible does it tell you to pray to anybody other than God himself. Which of course includes Jesus Christ, Since I believe in trinity. The scripture im talking about is** 1 Tim 2: 5** "only One God and only ONE mediator and that MAN not woman is Jeus Christ".

Mary was obviously blessed and a very special woman to be picked by God himself to have Gods Son. But what about the Father of faith Abraham. Should we pray to him to since he was Gods friend. Should we pray to Job since God found Job blameless and righteous? No I think not. The term Mediator itself is " One who reconciles or brings people back into right relationship".

And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel*.(***Hebrews 12:24). Jesus is the mediator between God and humans period. If you have scripture that tells us its ok to pray to Mary im open to discuss it. God bless you all

Shall we have grace and love towards our brothers and sisters. I’m sure you are a great person 🙂
 
One thing that I think is important to remember is that ignorance is bliss to some people. They would rather run around in their own little worlds and NOT learn about what they think they know EVERYTHING about. Whether protestant or catholic it happens on both sides. The thing I can’t get past is how we get so bunched up about it when it is pointed in the direction of our faith. My theory is that it’s because our faith is who we are at the very core. You are what you believe. So when someone attacks that faith they are essentially attacking you. shrug What we need to do is somehow take on an attitude of almost not caring what they think but more of shining the example of our faith and hope it makes an impact on that person as we walk away. They like to bait you… You just have to learn how not to let it bug you… 🙂
 
What can I say about this? Well I’ve mentioned in a few previous posts how The Lord (Lord knows how, cuz I certainly don’t) managed for a Baptist pastor and myself to cross paths and have a…ummm… i guess a kind of relationship, where on Wednesday nights I would go over and watch an 8 part series on Creation Science (with coffee and cake and yummies at intermission). And though I’ve got amazing, charitable, thoughtful advice on this board (CA) about how to answer or really respond to their most outrageous claims. All I pretty much could do was sit there and absorb it best I could to keep a poker face and not pop off outbursts. But most of the time I was laughing on the inside and politely did my best to never transmit more than a smile outwardly. But now the series is over and I find myself not wanting to go back because it’s probably a waste of my time, and wanting to go back and dispell a lot of their misconceptions. And I totally agree with an earlier poster about they really believe in what their doing is the Lord’s work… and so I don’t want to take things into debate with them all that much… for I don’t want to add to their perception of Catholics any more than they’ve already got. And of course can they ever whip scripture out as quick as a western gun slinger… in fact I do believe I’ve heard it refer to from them a few times as The Sword of the Lord (also a tract publishing house), and my Bible has just always been a shield… but for more practicle day-to-day stuff. I suppose though I just don’t want to go back because I don’t feel confident enough to refute… umm let’s see where to begin… Creation Science ( I believe that actual science can go a long way to proving more evidence to the existence of God… The Catholic Church has many great scientists, including Galileo, Davinci) A 6000 year old universe (250 billion uni…ummm maybe a multi-verse with cismic string theory, 4.56 Billion year old Earth, and Genesis was largely allegorical, yet being entirely true) Kent Hovind (the jury is still out on this one), Landmark Baptists (and The Trail of Blood by JM Carroll is utter nonsense, and would my Christian Baptist friends really want to be associated with claims that they came from Donatists and Waldenes?) the usual anti-katlic stuff and some really great doozies that blew me away…okay at that stuff I did chuckle a bit… and I did confirm that the Vatican had an intelligence office a sad reality of the world at large we live in… but the Holy Spirit I’m sure was translating this to him as the crack commando team of Jesuits that infiltrate Protesant churches for devious and dastardly plans (I chuckled at that one too). I suppose I just have to lay low too. I found all of it to be vexxing to my spirit… though strengthening me more in my Catholic faith.
I suppose knowledge, wisdom on how to dispell the knowledge and practising the knowledge and time would go along way to dispell them. I dunno. maybe it’s our own impatience that we just want to say it once tothem and they get it.

And I never wanted to be an apologist or an evangelist. In fact I never even heard the word apologist before I took up woth these people. I was just a happy-as-I-go cradle Catholic, just trying to get by in the world as it is… not always succeeding, but not always failing either, but there is always more you can do I guess.

Are they really that lost, or have we just lost our patience with them?

Yup i agree , that is why i’m trying to make everyone understand , that is not the way god wanted us to be…We should love one and other and not lashing who is right or wrong…Judging among believer is a sinful thing to do, coz it mean we are judging god’s teaching…

The more time I spend here the more I realized that most of this group has a very biased view of what is a lie. This is the reason I’d like to know specifics. For instance:

A lie: Catholics beleive saints and God are equal.

An opinion: The Catholic Church is the only true Church

Ok, here is an example of a lie that I read just yesterday on the BB. They claimed that the Catholic Church teaches that Mary is to be worshiped.

Now, we all know that this is not true, but there was nobody on the board coming out in our defense. Just makes me angry that ministers tell their congragations this kind of misinformation as if they have researched it. Problem is, these men and women have no idea how to do research. Rather, they seek only to support their own biased view. That is my problem.
 
I voted no because I do not spend anytime reading anti Catholic
sites, or what have you.
