I’m officially a professed member of the Secular Franciscan Order. Brother JR in this forum did say all three branches of the Franciscan family are forms of Consecrated Life. The Secular Franciscan Order is listed under Institutes of Religious and Consecrated Life under the official Vatican document. Secular Franciscans do make an equivalent solemn profession and promise to the Third Order Franciscan rule which is actually equal to first and second order Vows(I have the document). So how are we not a form of Consecrated Life? Our profession is canonical and binding till death. Any answers would be great!

There is a difference between the Third Order Secular and the Third Order Regular. Members of the former do not profess VOWS of poverty, chastity, and obedience; they make a commitment/promise.
In our religious vows, we give ourselves to God in a radical way.
I do not think that secular third orders (non-vowed) actually fall under “consecrated life.”
Check out religious profession of vows | Our Franciscan Fiat for reflections on our vows.

I have posted a PDF explaining…
