Can someone explain the difference between two types of dream time revelations I have read of people having. Joseph for instance had “revealed to him in a dream” that Mary his wife was faithful and pure, having conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit. The wise men had “revealed to them in a dream” that they should not report back that they had found the new king, but to return home by another route. I guess the question is how does a person know the difference between something important being revealed to them in a dream and just having a dream?

I think it was Hobbes who said that for a person to report that God had spoken to him in a dream was no more than to say he dreamed that God spoke to him. Has anyone ever analyzed the difference between it was “revealed to him in a dream” and he simply dreamed it? “Revealed to him” does sound a lot more official than “he dreamed it”.

Everything that happens to us in this life is, potentially at least, God speaking to us. It is for us, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to interpret it.
Of course, You cannot trust everything You see in the dreams. However, You might have individual reasons to believe the message was from God.

Dreams and revelations are substantially connected to each other. Dreams do have some form of revelation in them. Whilst revelations can be forms of different stigmatic intelligences, depending on the person’s desire and the equality of grace of its moral achievement.

Well you have to consider the circumstance. To Mary it was revealed that she would be born with a child of the Holy Ghost. Joseph was receptive to this dream as a confirmation because of what Mary explained to him beforehand. Perhaps he didn’t believer her at the time, however, he believed the confirmation in the dream.

You’re not acknowledging the miracle that surrounds these dreams. Jesus. The three wise men saw Jesus as being real, therefore, the dream confirms the miracle. They left another route. Get what I’m saying to you–the dreams are not as significant with Christ being born. Since this was a reality to Mary, Joseph and the wise men. They were more receptive to what their dreams signified.
