LONGMONT, Colo. (April 1) - Dozens of high school students protested a temporary school policy forbidding students from displaying the U.S. flag- (SNIP)

Students were warned about the policy Friday and several were suspended, although Stumpf would not provide details. Then, about 100 students protested during lunch time. Student Dustin Carlson told Denver station KCNC-TV that he was suspended for two days.

I read that story. I think the Principal should be suspended pending termination on this. This is just plain wrong.

if Americans aren’t careful we will soon be the united nations. :nope:

They were using the flags to intimidate people. That is wrong. They should ban ALL personal flags, and only allow them in the classroom.

I am not sure about banning all personal flags. But they should teach the proper use and respect for national symbols. The schools should use this opportunity as a learning experience for the students.

Disturbing? Yes, but let’s face it: the only flag that really gets any airtime for stirring people up in this country is this one:

I thought I had seen it all…American’s not be allowed to fly the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA flag…

They were not using it to display their national pride. They were using it to taunt the Mexicans- most of whom probably were there legally. There’s nothing wrong with displaying the flag- but it’s not something to be used to say “I’m better than you”. I see nothing wrong with displaying the U.S. flag in classrooms or auditoriums, but they don’t need to have flag stickers on their lockers, or carry miniature flags with them in school. It is disruptive. If they were not using it to intimidate Mexicans, they would not have banned it in the first place. Chances are, the ban will be lifted in a few years.

I have connections to both this flag and the other which was posted. I have connections to the American flag which was flown in 1847 over Chapultepec. I had ancestors who stood against the British on the Plains of Chalmette in 1815 and who stood with the Virginia militia in 1776 against the British. My ancestors fought in WWI. My father and my uncles fought in WWII in the Pacific and in Europe. I served my country during Viet Nam. The sight of a Mexican national flag surmounting a US flag in distress boiled my blood. I can’t even begin to imagine what my brothers and sisters and Texas might feel. If an American school principal allowed this to happen then it is time for those of us Americans who do know our history to rise up and to correct this blasphemy! What’s next? All of us in south Louisiana petitioning to rejoin France because of FEMA? I think not.
