Hello,

I just have a quick technical rather than spiritual question. My husband and I have been married for 5 years on Saturday, but when we were married, he was not been baptized. He did subsequenty come into the church about 2 years later. I am wondering if my marriage is valid under the church teachings.

Thank you.

If your marriage was valid before your husband’s baptism then it is still valid - baptism in no way invalidates marriage.

If you were not a Catholic when you got married then your marriage was presumed valid as are generally all marriages between non-Catholics. However, if you were a Catholic, your marriage was valid only if you received all required dispensations (i.e. to marry a non-baptized person).

Happy anniversary!
